Google and nofollow

I have 2 sites with different but similar topics (no duplicate content). I want a lot of linking from A > B and B > A so visitors can find topics from both sites (no I don't want them on one site). This is what I had in mind :

    1 regular link from A > B
    other links A > B And B > A with the nofollow tag.

I think it is safe because Google doesn't follow or give PR through links with nofollow. He just ignors those links. But I want to be sure. Can I avoid a penalty by doing it this way.

You did it right pal.Congratulations!!!!!

About no follow tag, it is the best practice of putting external links in your site so that you will avoid Google penalty.
This was recently posted on Matt Cutts blog as I remember.
