In tabulating the incoming links to a page, does anyone know if Google give the same value to image links as to text links? Or is one type given more weight than the other, as for example when the PR of the page is calculated?
I'm not sure, but I think that text links are worth more than images. But for image links you can make description in link title, which can be used as keyphrase. But this is just my opinion.
text links are (were) more poweful as they are discriptive. Google is implementing a new algorithm right now which might change the evaluation of image links. Maybe alt will matter, I dont know
Right. I don't think alt/title attributes carry as much weight as anchor text in terms of ranking for a specific key phrase, but for general PR, it's a count of links, basically regardless of what type.
in a way or another, it is important to tell crawlers what the link is about (of course in text way)... and how strong/the quality the link came from...
Text link can help you improved your rankings but image link are more visible than a text link this can give you more traffic.
