Hi I'm looking at a new niche and need some advice on setting up the layout. Say you want to rank for 3 similar keywords like this: hair gel best hair gel the best hair gel How would you go about making pages on your site? Would you have three separate pages each having the title shown above with basically the same content on each or would you have one content page and a couple redirects when they click on the other two links? Basically I have a bunch of kws that I want to rank for and don't know how to write unique content for them since they are so similar. I want separate pages I think so that I can backlink them separately .. right? If I do that, will google notice that the pages are very similar in post title and will they care? thanks.
You honestly can't make legitimate pages with that similar of topics/keywords. You will need to either just compose all the those keywords in all your articles (have those 3 keywords as your 'primary keywords - 'sitewide'), or just take out some.
You definitely can have tons of unique content related to the topic for very similar keywords, you just need to take it in a whole different direction. Dont mess with the redirects, go for all unique content for each keyword. Example: Hair Gel - Write about how Hair Gel was first created Best Hair Gel - Write about celebs with the best Hair The best Hair Gel - Review some hair Gel Companies
Just do one page containing those keywords... If you optimized the page well and have quality backlinks, that page will rank using your 3 target keywords! believe it!
Here is what Google is saying about duplicate content: http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66359
All the three keywords are very similar, so you can target all of them on a single page. well optimize your page using your targeted keywords.
Well, simple - I'd create content based around those keywords - nothin more, nothin less. And then, I'd go out and seek links from related websites. Since you're looking at creating a hair gel site - you'd have to ask other hair gel sites if they'd like to affiliate in one way or more.
Just have those keywords in your content at around 3-5% density, build backlinks based on a combination of these keywords, and build titles based around these keywords.
One page with the longer keyword should rank the same for them all. From my experiences anyway. Create a page using that as the page title and it's URL. Also use those in head tags. h1 h2 h3 etc
Some good advice here and some crazy stuff "I think there is no such thing as duplicate content.". There is no such thing as too many articles on the same keywords. You should create several pages that touch on your keywords as RankDomination suggested: Example: Hair Gel - Write about how Hair Gel was first created Best Hair Gel - Write about celebs with the best Hair The best Hair Gel - Review some hair Gel Companies The more articles/pages, etc that you have showing up with unique content centered around those keywords, the better off your going to be. And don't do anything that isn't a fresh page or article with unique content, such as weird linking or dupe content. it will hurt you more than anything else.
