I've read that google gives relevence to older domain names, but how do they know how old your domain is? Do they reference the wayback machine?
Well I believe they give weight to how long the domain has been indexed in G, rather than the domain age.
bacanze is right, older domain names as in the ones that have been in Google for a longer time they give relevence to.
yeap i think so. many domain have long time index by google. but when they drop. the weight to this domain in google is gone. so buy some old domain not just age. old indexed domain have do some seo is great...
Well, DNS information is public so they can check it. But I think that they check the date of the first indexing... And yes, Google loves old domains, maybe too much if you ask me... p.l.u.r.
When google first index your pages it saves the information in it's cache.google may be save this cache data and from this cache they decide how old your website is.
google will look their indexed date . i think google does not check the domain register date while they are checking the domain age .
and i dont think they need to see the public whois either since im sure they have access to private whois data also
I think it's more important to have a website with quality fresh content (daily changes) than an old domain name. Although an older domain name may help jest a little.
I would think they use their cache to see how long they've been indexing content for a site. Domain age is just one of hundreds of factors they like/dislike about a site. Granted in my opinion domain age ranks up near the top of importance/weight... which I think it should.
well an older domain might just give you the edge especially if you are within a very highly competitive niche
