You have access to my logs, you tell me. And if it is, then that WOULD proove your previous statement as a false one wouldn't it?

Though again, you hide behind your Anonymous name and take jabs at the poster rather then the post. That says a LOT about the editors within the ODP doesn't it? Now how about you take my post about and reply to it's point rather then making insinuations about other editors within the project?

For the record I did not do ANYTHING wrong as an editor....and unless you can prove I did, then please stop attacking my time as an editor. Thank you.

Complete non sequitur. It merely expresses your opinion of Anon.

Your credibility would be enhanced if you stopped extrapolating your views on a trivial matter to be damning evidence about the entire editing population, the universe and everything.

I assume you are talking about Anonymously's post I was replying to as well?

How many times do I have to explain I am not talking about ALL editors? Again, I made a post within this thread and replies to it ignored the point of the post, and made the matter personal.

There are good editors within the directory, and you are seemingly one of them. I've never said otherwise... well, there was a short time with me being bitter where I put a blanket over the editing team and called them all names, but I have taken that back. Now when I make claims I bring along links and evidence when possible. Can you say the same for the people replying to me with little more then personal attacks? In my previous post I did say that Anon was giving editors a bad name, and he is... as an editor he IS a spokesmen for the ODP whether or not he or anyone else likes that fact.

Personally I like the ODP, and would LOVE to see it rise to its full potential... but it can never do that until it corrects a few of it's flaws and corrects a few of it's existing editors from going around calling names at people and insinuations of misconduct. I was NOT the one that made this thread about me...

I suggest you just look at what you are really saying here, you are asking me about if there was not one editor who did this, that sounds like you have information about it happening and I just wondered if you were making a personal confession, I did not insult you just extrapolated what you were saying and asked a question with a touch of humour.

But you can give the insults, innuendos and make mischief but obviously don't like it returned.

I guess you are correct. My post above never once happened ever and you are correct. There has never once been an editor that cleared their queue because they simply didn't want to bother with it... though by the admission of a few editors here the queue is not necessarily looked at (ever). Could it be looked at? Sure, but that in no way means it will POSITIVELY be looked at like you have said.

Look at the queues lost back in '05. Not all of those got looked at, so *shrug* your post above is still wrong.

And look, no insults, innuendos or mischief...

Webmasters just do not get it!

The queues arent empty simply because of the huge volume of sites that are suggested, daily.

IF i cleared every cat i can edit in and IF one suggestion was submitted to one of my cats or subcats each day, ONLY ONE, then i would have to do 2000 edits PER DAY to keep on top. Thats why we cant state when we will look, if we will look, cause how the hell do i know when i can get near it....???? The spam and garbage just comes and comes.......thats why editors choose to find sites themselves. They see a good site and list it. They dont review 8 crap submissions to find only 1 was listable to start with!

    Lets get real here!

I volunteered to help, NOT be a slave to webmasters submitting their sites. I am free to edit where i wish, (in cats that i have that privelage) and i will tell you honestly, I avoid the computer and web development categories like the plague.! You know why....because every little spoilt webmaster submits his new site 2-3 times, they submuit affiliate sites constantly, they use redirects and every sneaky little seo tactic, keyword stuffing and the like and expect us to list them.

Instead.......i love dealing with NON-commercial sites. No spam, just good content easy to edit sites that are a joy to edit and spend 20 mins reading and looking in, before i push the publish button.

The then come here and state they submitted once......it was a perfect site....its better than such and such or way better than his competitors site!

Well hello?? On the editing side we see the redirect, we see the 6 submissions in 3 months, we see the 404 and broken links, the redirect and lack of content, other than affilliated advertsining.

I get to choose what to edit, when to edit and how much to edit.......If webmasters dont like that, they should apply, get accepted and do their part to help. But i personally would doubt that many webmasters could apply and be accepted, they dont seem a real honest, ethical bunch to me and that is one of the prime requirements for being an editor. That could explain why some are EX-editors. ;)

THINK GUYS, many of you own directories, how much spam and crap submissions do you get? Well multiply it by 50,0000 (at a guess) and thats how much dmoz gets!

Have a nice day people ;)

Here is something that most editors just don't get...
Webmasters own those sites as well.

Not to mention that not all webmasters are bad in any way, as should be clear in the second part of your quote. In fact MOST webmasters I'd assume only do submit once (and follow the rest of the guidelines).

And heh... if the webmasters that were submitting multiple times were spoiled, then they would have already had their listing :p

Don't take that comment out of context, Q. Snooks said that those web sites from spoiled webmasters were to be found, in op's opinion, in certain categories, so snooks chooses to edit in different ones.

None of us believe that all webmasters are nasty or that they all send in spam, but I can tell you that there are many on here who fit that bill. Mainly because they will never get a listing, so they come here and complain.

Snooks was saying that he became an editor to help, not to be a slave for web masters. Understand the difference, one does what one can and helps and the other is burdened and works every hour without any enjoyment, just as a slave.

Many of us do work hard, many put in long hours, but we do it because we want to, we do it to build the directory we want (we as an editing community), we won't be dictated to by any person just so they can have their site listed. So webmasters or anyone else coming and berating us for speed, for not using the right terminology on how long we will take to edit, on how corrupt we are, that we don't communicate, that we....oh write your own...cut no ice.

We also try on here to help where we can and to offer what advice we can. There are some areas that we can't, won't or don't want to venture into. Accept what we offer, it is still our spare time, we don't have to even show up, we get nothing out of being here often except abuse, though there are some good moments when we can help and where someone actually does apply to join the community.

Do we also sometimes get frustrated on here, of course because there seems to be a pattern, why have I not got listed? or my site is brilliant so you must be corrupt for not listing it. And sometimes people just want to be "mischievous" take things out of context, twist what was never meant or missquote an straight answer, run the directory down. It is only a directory, we do it as a hobby.

Twist all you like Q. ;) I made my comments and people know what i mean, people also see you twisting them.

Funny how when i place a blanket claim over webmasters, you pick up on it and react. Seems everyone throws a generic blanket over dmoz editors....but thats allowed ;) Mmmhhhh. Quite odd in my opinion.

Fact is, a non commercial site such as a local museum, a local art gallery, school websites, frie brigade, police dept and i can go on and on, are stariaght forward reviews. Pleasant, you enjoy looking at the site, you read the details, you learn and have fun. You see the kids photos, or the latest news on the new fire pumpers.........you see the animals awaiting adoption, or how jet propulsion on an aircraft functions.

Review some other cats, a good example being a web design site and you need to check mirrors, you need to check for redirects, you quite often have to delete multiple submissions.......just a whole different ball game.

One is fun and as such, great to edit and done when i have a spare minute. The other.......well i dont like to edit there so i dont volunteer, i leave that to people that do like to edit there. Surprisingly, a few actually like editing there.

    Fact of life. ;)

    Cheers. ;)

Wasn't trying to twist a bit. Just trying to make things clear. I know that many webmasters are spamming cry babies...I just wanted to make sure it was clear that not all of them are. So sorry if you thought I was twisting your post when you didn't seem to mention there were some good ones.

So my next question as the OP - is there a place where I can get personal emails of all the categories of each editor? I really think my site collection is ideal - you have listed some really shitty sites and we are spending thousands ??!

You can use the feedback on ODP by clicking on the name of the editor and then there is a link to send email, but that will not give you a personal email address, but it will usually deliver the mail. Providing the editor has given their consent, sorry we are not obliged to receive emails from the public and we are certainly not obliged to read or answer them. You might get a response, but I doubt it if you are going to say "where is my site in the Q?" and offering any reward, well that's a route to never get listed.

Just listen to what has been said many times before.
We are not a listing service.
We don't care how much you have spent or how bad the site is constructed, that is not a criteria.
There is nothing you can do to speed up the progress, submitting your site many times can get you seen as a spammer and slows its progress down.
Submit and forget, go and promote your site elsewhere and one day a volunteer editor will review your site and may list it.

There is one way to speed up your site being reviewed....become an editor, then you can be the subject of emails that you too will mostly ignore and the subject of a great deal of abuse on here. But if you want a good hobby, have some time to spare, large or small, then you can submit an application. Many posts on here carry details how.
