Hello, Google spiders my new site every day and counts 350 pages or so but it doesn't count any backlinks while MSN counts over 300. I use coop, MSN sees at least 10 of the back links, google 0... Do you know if there is any reason? and how long does it take? Thank you
This may have been the truth sometime ago. For the past year they have been showing a sample of backlinks irrespective of the linking page's PR.
same here. Besides, I always have backlinks that aren't shown but G catches up partway every so often. At least, this has been my experience.
If I understood weel, Google updates backlinks every month and depending on some factors it will show from PR2 and + with a preference for a minimum of PR4. Thank you for your help!
Is there any indication for the preference for a minimum of PR4. I just checked a couple of sites and it is all over the board in terms of PR rank.
Google changed the PR4 part a number of months ago - and now shows any pr backlink. They only update their backlink list periorically - about once a month.
You PR (the Green Bar) is updated approx every 3 months, your back links are up-dated monthly - or + a bit, how regulary will your position (serps i think) change?
Thanks, How do you pros seem to get everything going so quickly? What time scale do you allow to get effictive listing in SE's, I understand there are many variables and it is hard to quantify, i am trying to get a feel for wether I am going down the right paths!!
I am no pro but here is a tip: Shhh... the coop is a good kick-start to any internet marketing program.
The confusion is because most webmasters never knew that Google has always only shown a fraction of your actual back links that it sees. About 4 or 5 months ago, they switched displaying primarily PR4+ links to primarily PR5- links (and not many of the PR5s at that). So anyone using the Google link command for determining their backlinks is lost as they are not accurate. I recommend using Yahoo and or MSN Beta to determine your backlinks. If you have Optilink you can see the page rank of all the yahoo links which makes it easier to see where your real page rank is coming from (for those who beileve it to be important...and if you don't, don't say anything, just agree to disagree and lets stay on topic please). Anyway, don't use the Google link: command as it is USELESS.
One minor point, but the Google link: command used to (and probably still does, but I have not done an extensive analysis in a long time) comingle links to DNS aliased domains within the same result set. IOW, if a site had links pointing to both domain1 and domain-1, and they were both DNS aliased, Google would show links to both domains in a links search for either domain. I'm not sure if the link: searches on Yahoo or MSN do the same. This can be an important factor when researching links for competitors that have changed ownership (and corporate domains) in the past..
I looked at the backlink count for a site we lauched few weeks ago: Google: 0 as per your comments, it seems normal Yahoo: 16 MSN: 563 Altavista: 14 Hotbot/lycos: 4 For a "older site". the order stays the same: MSN, Yahoo and Altavista with 50% less, Lycos with 1/3 and Google with 10% of MSN. Does that sounds "normal"? knowing that I discovered the backlink factor not long ago.
Sorry I might be new but can you please tell me what is "coop". I have seen many posts with these words.
