You know google changed the way it defines a link is important or not. I can definitely say that the number of links you have is not so important at this time. The more important is their quality as well as the position you had when Google imposed new rules. Unfortunately the Google search results have poor relevancy than thos in MSN and Yahoo. You can find web sites ranked high on some search terms that have nothing to do with the topic.
Google shows only a part of the links it is aware of linking to a site. I don't know the reason though
I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that Google only shows backlinks above a certain PR, but does know about all backlinks.
I am not sure of that. The backlinks google shows for my site are definately not my best. They show a lot directories and forum sigs. I have lots of much better links from relevant sites with higher pr that are not listed.
When someone search for let say xxxxxx.xxx on Google it shows results for pages that link to xxxx.xxx and pages that contain the term xxxxxx.xxx. Most of this pages that contain the term xxxxxx.xxx are actualy pages that link to xxxxx.xxx. Why those pages are not shown like pages that links to xxxxxxx.xxx
