Google anchor text

I just read that google has started counting specific anchor text to your site as bad seo because it reflects the way paid linking is done with keyword rich links.

e.g. if you had a site about cats and used cats in your anchor text for links google would pick up on that because natural linking people wouldn't know what anchor text needed to be used.

but, after all, only relevant anchor text only pays off your seo efforts. this does not make sense. where did you read it?

I don't believe that at all, anchor text adds to the strength of links pointing in to your site.

It's just nonsense. There is good evidence that links with appropriate anchor text are going to help your site rank for that text. Google would be stupid to stop using that signal. They may experiment a bit with how much they value it - but there is no reason to totally ignore it.

I think its not a bad SEO. Search engine would know if it's a natural link or a paid links. Some say google has an algo to check paid links.

it sounds crazy to me. if you have a site about cats then it is human to use the word 'cat' in the anchor text.
What else will a human put ? maybe 'dog' ?

    complete nonsense

a link can have anchor text
as long as you don't get 1 million back links with the exact same anchor text (ie abcd)
google will see them as natural and random

Keyword-rich links are at the heart of good SEO. Any wise SEO uses them all the time, whether he/she is securing free or paid links. There is no way that Google can distinguish between free or paid links strictly on the basis of keyword-rich text. I use keyword-rich text on all my free directory submissions, and they certainly have no problem with that.

As well as being good for SEO keyword rich links are also very useful for those who may have accessibility problems.

If someone is using a speech browser to view a site, and all of the links say "Click Here" or "This is a Link", will that be help at all for the person ?? Or would it be better to have links saying "Cat Page", "Dog Page" or "Horse Page".

I think the idea of Google punishing anchor text in links in complete rubbish.

Just as long as you don't have hundreds or thousands with certain keywords text. However I think it is still fine and helps in many cases as long as it isn't from link farm type sites
