We are ranking in Top 3 for the term in “Televisions†in www.google.co.uk We are seeing 40-50 visitors per day from the keyword from Google search: televisions This is according to Google analytics that we use on the site. Also, according to Google External Keyword Tool, which is their tool to estimate traffic, EXACT MATCH traffic in the UK is 1,200,000 (Exact Match) As per these expert posts http://www.redcardinal.ie/google/12-08-2006/clickthrough-analysis-of-aol-datatgz/ http://www.slowseo.com/articles/sea...ions.html#Positional_click-through_percentage traffic that spot 3 should receive is around 8 % of total searches. For the keyword, we are clearly in spot 3 and it has a monthly “exact match†search volume of 1 200 000 or 5,000,000 for “Broad matchâ€. So we should expect 8% of this number, so about 96,000 (1200000*.08)visits from the keyword: televisions. Instead , we receive about 1200. Something is definitely wrong. We cannot explain a % difference of 1200 versus 96,000. Either Google Analytics is wrong or we have technical problems or Google Adword is showing wrong data. Please share your views on this
A couple of things - firrstly, how are you establishing that you are in position 3? I'm sure you know that personalised results, cookies, geo-taregtiing etc, will mean you may not be seeing what the majority of other people are seeing. Putting that aside I can see one result in the top 6 results that isn't from a recognised high street name. If that's you, then I suspect that is the problem - your snippet is not attractive amongst the listings for names that I recognise - if I was interested in buying a television,, I'd click on John Lewis or Argos instead too. It seems a huge difference in traffic to be accounted for, but if that is your listing, I think the combination of not having a recognisable name yourself, and no brand names in the snippet, is making a difference
