I realize there are Google forums, but its more specific to the data Google Analytics provides. Specifically, we are seeting up Conversion Goals and to do so requires the URL of the page being marked as a "goal". The only problem is that our site has the order number built into the URL so every new order being placed is in essence a different page. How can I get around this so that I can resolve this issue and not have to pay my web providers an arm and a leg for 12 seconds of work?
Hello, if you use a common include or template for the site, you can simply put it in there, and it will be active on all of those auto-created pages.
To set up the Conversion Goal is to have a predefined URL which Analytics is waiting to encounter. It's not like the rest of the code used that is thrown into, say, the header file to monitor a user's cookie as it navigates throughout the site. I suppose you could set a sepereate line of code for those pages as you described and use a filter to find out how many people made it to that page. However I figured there might be an easier way since Google desinged conversions differently... any other ideas?
Couldn't tell you off the top of my head, waiting on the developers to get back. What little I know is the site is built on a DNN framework and the cart uses TLS 1.0 (128-bit encryption); sorry, not much help... Might I ask how the shopping cart system affects the URL of the "Thank You" page or how this allows me to get around the problem before I hear back from the developers?
NM. The link below explains how to solve this problem as well as those associated with identical URLs over several steps in, say, a checkout process. https://www.google.com/support/googleanalytics/bin/answer.py?answer=55514&hl=en_US
