if you put it only in the homepage, it will monitor only the home page.
for a good idea of your traffic stats, you need to pleace analytics code on ALL pages.

If you use a CMS you can easily add analytics to every page. Wordpress, Joomla, and Drupal all have plugins for this.

If you coded the site without a CMS you will need to add the code to each page.

If you are using html sites the you have to put the code on every page.
If you are using wordpress, you can put the code on footer.php
I think this same technique applies for other CMS as well but I an not sure.

    Hi Aditya,

If you will not install Google Analytic code on each pages then Google Analytic will not show proper traffic data as it was not able to track those page properly where the code is not installed. It will show proper goal conversion. page view, average time on site etc. That is why its strongly suggested to implemented the code on all pages of your website.

Here is Guide http://www.google.com/support/analytics/bin/answer.py?answer=66983#0.1.1_step4 for the same.

it needs to be on every page if you want detailed information on each of your webpages. If you use a blogging platform like wordpress then this isn't a problem

For blogspot and wordpress, you just need to add google analytics code to its template, because every page of these sites use the template.
For other sites, you should add the code to each page of the site to let google monitor all your site pages.
