Hello DP members, I would just like to show you two screenshots of stats of 1st & 2nd October, 2011 for one particular site. First Google Analytics: 217 Visitors and 247 Visits Now, let's see Awstats 3954 Unique Visitors & 4090 visits There is no scope of reconciling above two stat results. For above both results, period is same. I have also confirmed bandwidth used with my server and awstats figure is correct. So I would like you people to know why should we all rely on analytics? Is it even showing results which are nearer to reality?
Awstats, as far as I know, uses server logs, while GA relies on Javascript. It means that GA doesn't count robots. So I'd say GA gives you a picture far truer than Awstats.
GA only counts the pages added tracking code , Awstats can count all the pages, that may be one of the reasons
Haven't tried AWStats, but if you haven't installed Google Analytics on every single page of your content, you won't get reliable stats tracked. I don't know which website you're running, but if it's simple html sites you should consider including the Google Analytics code to all the pages. Foxtr0t got it right, as far as I've heard at least. AWStats should be using server logs and Google Analytics is all javascript which crawlers and other bots can't read.
I have kept GA only on my index page. And mine is Image hosting site. So there are plenty of direct hits on my other pages. May be you got a point. Thanks for sharing your views with me.
Awstats works with log files and Google analytic works wіth page tagging method. Both services differ mainly becаusе of the below two points: File caching: If a returning visitor hаѕ file caching enabled on hіѕ web browser the request fоr thе file he alrеady viewed will not be sent to thе web server, аnd hе wіll view a local copy, ѕо awstat wіll not detect multiple visit ѕomе times but this wont bе a issue wіth google analytics. Page tagging relies оn thе client browser voluntarily providing the analytical information requested. Some browser disable ѕomе data collection fоr security reasons аnd hencе at times loose а hit. This issue iѕ nоt with thеre with Awstat service. My opinion would be tо uѕe both services аѕ they both are free.
Well, awstats counts bots and similar as well, so analytics is better if you want stats on real visitors.
I don't agree with you. Mine was having the same problem. Google Analytic catch visitors stats very late.
I'm suspicious of Google Analytics, especially on a Wordpress blog. I use the WP Statpress plugin, and Google Analytics. They numbers are vastly different and when I dig deeper and lookup the IP's of the visitors from Statpress, not all are bots. AND...these same real visitors that appear in Statpress do not appear in Google Analytics. Maybe I'm missing something obvious?
i am not interested in these things. i believe in just traffic, when u have traffic u have everything thats it.
