Google Analytics question -- source of most visits is "direct", but new visitors?

I have a question for anyone who uses Google Analytics frequently. My analytics report shows the same trend almost every day -- usually about 75 percent of my site's visitors are new visitors, with usually about 25 percent being returning visitors.

However, when I look at the referral source for my site visitors, almost the same percentage -- usually around 70 percent or so -- are classified as "direct," meaning they typed in my site's URL directly into their browsers.

My question is, how can I receive new visitors day in and day out, mostly, and also receive those visitors by them typing in my browser's URL when they can't possibly know the URL already?

    Any ideas?

    Hello atladsenser,

Follow these steps to find how many of direct referals are new or returning.

1-click on marketing / visitor segment performance / referring source
2-click on the red colored up arrow(just before the serial number) and than click on cross segment performance/visitor type,

you may also find some other very useful and interesting information over there

Goodluck hope this would be new and very useful to you:)

Maybe your links from other site was not live that's why your visitors need to copy the URL and paste it on the browser.
