Hi I am looking for some feedback. I have been looking quite a bit at Google Analytics the last week on my 2 websites. I have read up a bit about the bounce rate. Just to confirm is this basically how many people exit on the page they enter? would 41% be a really bad bounce rate?
bounce rate is what percent of people leave your site without visiting other pages. 41 means almost half the people who go to that particular page don't visit any other page.
I think 41% is not too bad for an ecommerce site. I have some sites at around 16% though. Many directories will have higher bounce rates - especially if PR0 - but yeah 40% is not such a bad benchmark to aim at
41% isn't too bad. It depends a lot upon your niche and how your website is setup. Some websites are designed to be more enticing to click onto a second page. Others are designed to give people what they want on the first page they get to. With Google Analytics it is very easy to experiment with small changes on the page that may affect things like bounce rate.
Yeah. And a good idea though to decrease the bounce rate is to have other interesting looking links on the page in question. If I'm presented with an article on SEO and its a block of text, ill probably scan it and then leave. But if I see something at the top of the page like "Related Articles: 10 Of The Best SEO Tips You Are Going To Get" I might just be gullible enough to click through.
thanks everyone for comments website in question is my website www.johnnysinajiffy.com its ecommerce based, however we feel alot of it is down to the design, its a bit dated, we have brand new website going live next week, so I am hoping to improve the bounce rate, and get people clicking in to see the products
The descriptions of bounce on this thread are all accurate. To answer your question I might want to look at the keywords people are arriving under. In your page title it reads: I would change it to include a more descriptive outline of your products on the homepage. The title infers all you sell is condoms when you actually sell a lot more. Since the title (Meta description as well) is often what people see first in SERPs, make it engaging or inviting to your true offerings. Also your page titling should change from page to page. It should describe the page itself. You want to have better keyword focus and find the sweet spot (KWs that convert to sale). This approach will solve your bounce problem and convert more visitors to sales Cheers, Homer
thanks for your feedback homer - ill have a wee look into that, we are tweaking all page meta tags on new website
Changing the title and meta description which not only help you reduce your website and convert more, but also assist you in getting a higher search engine ranking. 41% is not a bad bounce rate but the endeavor should be to get it further down. Breaking down the analysis to find out which keywords are results in more bounce rate, sources with high bounce rate, etc. will all help you know what corrective measures need to be incorporated. It is going to be an iterative process, mind you.
yeah thats for thank, now that i have been spending quite a bit of time in anayaltics, i can see what is working and what is not, we are also making the new design much more appealing and modern so people want to click through, thats what we are hoping for anyway
RFKSolutions, just remember that what the visitor sees (clicks) before arriving to your site is what they expect when they arrive...it sets the mood. The more control you can gain over that the more you will convert visitors to action...that simple. It really all starts when the person enters a key phrase into the search engine or makes a conscious click.
