It will be... they are still going to give Urchin 6 to licensed Urchin 5 users with a support/upgrade contract (which includes me). Not sure if they will sell it to new users though. Already is one... http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=70
Giving google all your web traffic info is the scariest thing out there. If I'm MSN or Yahoo I sue to stop this immediately. Once google aggregates this information they have Everyone's end traffic patterns to better monetize their status. Google analytics scares the cr@p out of me. Dave
It's not any scarier than Google having all your emails (Gmail). If Google ends up violating their own privacy policy (digging into your web stats or reading your email), they would be in unbelievable trouble (and they know it... so I really doubt they are going to start).
yeah i dont like the fact that G is going to have more data at hand, but my site not using it isnt going to stop the masses. ill jump on board and give it a shot! however, im not sure msn or yahoo have any grounds to sue on other than G having another great idea. does the privacy policy specifically state that they will not be using any of the data from analytics?
On the other hand, maybe google will give our sites a boost if it sees that we are using their stats service, slim chance I know but one can dream right?
Google obtains the aggregate information from 30,000 web sites. The conversion information, the sales information, the information from IP's who buy, the internal traffic information on traffic within pages, the information on traffic from Y and MSN, etc. They know more than anyone else and they know how their competitors information works and what works best on web sites. They will have too much information.
I was actually paying for Urchin on Demand. My stats are 10 times slower then normal coming up. Hopefully Google will work on scalability, now that the whole world gets free stat's. I bet they guys over at omiture aren't too happy right now.
I'm sure there are a lot of unhappy companies today. http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/051114/websidestory_stock.html
I like the idea! Can someone recommend a Windows tool that lets you S&R a string like that in all the files in a directory? swoop
I use textpad textpad.com It has a "find in files" feature and a s&r. Not a fully automated solution, but pretty close. Edit: Whoa, looks like they have a product called WildEdit which sound exactly like what you are asking for. I have used Textpad for years now, but never noticed WildEdit.
This is very cool... In the process now of setting it up on all my sites. I have actually been looking around for better tracking information recently, so this is fairly good timing for me.
Anyone else getting this? "Tracking has not been validated or added to one or more of your Website Profiles Report data is not being gathered for one or more of your Website Profiles. Please review the Status column in the table below to discover which Website Profiles require action in order to add tracking for gathering report data." When I do a "Check Status" I get: "Waiting for Data Analytics has been successfully installed and data is being gathered now. Your first reports will be ready within twelve hours. " It has been more than 12 hour that I added the JS to my pages but so far I see nothing on the graphs.
I really don't think Google analytics, in it's present form, is a threat to companies like Omniture, Core Metrics, etc. They offer products/services and reporting/data capabilities that you can't get with Google Analytics. They cater to larger companies/publishers, whereas Google Analytics is a great fit for small to medimum sized companies/publishers. It is a start though and those companies would be foolish to think that the product won't evolve into a more robust offering geared at larger corporations in the future.
I agree. I too have been looking into some better tracking for my sites and am very happy about the timing of this
