Google analytics tells me the most common keyword for non paid visits is (not set). Anyone know why this happens? I just want to know what keywords people are using to find my site.

This is a known problem with GA at the moment. I sent a support mail and they said that it was "A known issue and is being looked into".

I have noticed though that over the past few days (not set) has been decreasing and GA is starting to report keywords better.

I'm digging up an old post but..this is what comes up first in Google for "Google Analytics (not set)".

I have a Google Analytics Account and Adwords account linked and use the auto tagging feature in Adwords.

I still get alot of (not set) keywords and have no idea what they mean.

I also run several other websites which are showing the same deal. Lots of (not set) keywords.

Does anyone know what the cause of this is?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Gavin.

It's a problem with GA. One reason it can happen is that you are using tags to track from another network - an affiliate network or using doubleclick or atlas tags to track ads - and it's causing a conflict.

I myself haven't seen this problem in a while, but I've heard from a few people that it still happens.

According to the Google Analytics blog, "not set" means:
