You should try StatCounter which is pretty good.

For me analytics shows lower results also, but I think it is very hard to find really accurate stats counter.
AWstats seems to increase the quantity of visitors)

Ya even for me Google shows MUCH lower results than Histats.. Googlw shows only 1/5th of the visits as that of Histats... Also the keywords are updates much later in google from which traffic came to my site...

Analytics has been on the fritz lately (such as showing x,xxx visits from 0 visitors).

As with everything Google, give it time and it will most likely be fixed.

I think instead of using google analytics we all should check the cpanel.

Cpanel shows hits. Hits and Pageviews are not the same. Hits included each image/css downloaded etc.

I have had the same problem and decided it was most likely due to the fact that analytics counts only the pages you have chosen to track and added code on...For example, I am only tracking my index.html page with analytics, and upon checking my stats found that a lot of people were directly being linked to other pages of my site.
Either way I think your cPanel stat counter should be more accurate and reliable so stick with that.

I've gotten bot hits on my site before which increased Awstats to 500 uniques or so...but Anaylitics would still show 100 uniques. Sometimes, Awstats is *less* accurate than Analytics due to bots.
