Hi all, I am hit with this issue: high bouncerate and I was wondering if you have any suggestions on how to lower this rate.

The issue with my site is that the main function is on the home page, so it is a single page with single function. For example, if I visit the page and use the function and I am done, I just exit, I don't go to other pages, etc...

Is there anyway to reduce it, I was thinking maybe putting an Exit link pointing to google? So instead of closing window or hitting the back button, they would click on exit instead? Any help would be appreciated !

You already have the idea. Give them another reason to click. Add some sort of tool on a separate page.

Or bounce them on a high paying ad.

A high bounce rate may be fine. Blogs by their nature are visited for their front page content. People click over to see the latest post.

I've seen bounce rates of 70% for sites powered by wordpress that do very well on the google serps.

I say don't worry too much about bounce rate.

Providing them with a link to go to another website instead of exiting will not have any impact on bounce rate. It will still be counted as a bounce even if a user returns to Google. There are many factors that help reduce the bounce rate. Providing more reasons to remain on the website is one. The position of such links is also important. If you have a lot of content and usre has to scroll down then it is better to provide a link to something else related at the end of the page so a user can follow through.

Related items feature works as well to reduce bounce rate on content driven sites. Prominent menus and splitting useful elements of the site into different pages can also help. Yuo can easily do a research on Google and find a lot articles with tips and techniques. At the end of the day if you offer a lot of quality content or other items of value to users then bounce rate will reduce.
