Google analytics - blonde moment

Discussion in 'Google Analytics' started by Solicitors Mortgages, Jul 13, 2006.

I want to see where my traffic comes from, what the referer was or what the person typed into a search engine to find my site... I can find neither of these things amongst all the stats that google analytics provides.

I assume they provide these stats? if so where?

    thanks a lot
    James.

I also have trouble finding very specific information such as this. GA only provides the "major" traffic/keyword trends and not very specific stats.

You may need to use something like statcounter for very specific stats.

    Hi,

    Have you tried this?:
    1. Log-in to Analytics
    2. Click Marketing Optimization
    3. Click Marketing Campaign Results
    4. Click Referral Conversion
    5. You probably want to increase your display amount
    6. Click the + beside each site to see the pages within that site are linking to you.

Referer info you can find here : Marketing Optimization - Visitor Segment Performance - Referring Source
Search info : Marketing Optimization - Search Engine Marketing - Keyword Considerations

G Analytics is an extremly powerfull marketing tool. Extremly.

It's not a reffer, keyword tracking tool. you can get those all over.. And no it doesn't have those basic stats.

And even if it had them they wouldn't be a great help to you because the stats only update once or twice a day. You need real-time stats on reffers so that you can be effective :)

So couple Analytics with another free tool on the web.

Google Analytics is more powerful web stat software i ever see, you can track everything.
For referrer:visitor segment performance > referring source
For keyword :serch engine marketing > overall keyword conversion
If you click on the detail of the keyword you can see all the search engine related to that keyword
If you click on the double arrow, near the keyword, you'll see a popup menu and you can view cross reference related info.

The only that Google Analytics dont track is the complete serp info, for example from what page of the search engine become the search, for this i use another tool (completly free): weppos.com (asp stats generator), there is also the english version. Take a look to the online demo (serp control). With this tool i track only the homepage because is mdb access based and the size of db increase a lot if you have a site with k visits.

There is a way to see what the referrer was.

In the Referring Source Report you can click the [IMG] next to a domain and then under Cross Segment Performance select Content.

But you will have only http://www.domain.com/articles.php URLs. It does not show dynamic parameters.

The only point I can agree with you is the very first one :)
It have referer, keyword analysis and more. You have to select the "marketer view" to see all reports. Click around and see why people say - "G Analytics is an extremly powerfull"!!

Again you are wrong with updating once or twice in a day. I get updates every hour, only issue is the reports I see will be almost 2 hours behind. It does update hourly, but is not real time.

I dont understand why you need real-time stats for referers, unless you want to get hold of the session id in URL and try to hack in! All you need is who all are referring you and what keywords are being used to find you. G Analytics provides all you need, no need to even think about any other free-commercial stats software.
