for analytic, you should insert the code generated by google analytic into your website code.
currently it has javascript and php.

more details can be obtain from google analytic help.

Both google analytics and statcounter provides some scripts for you to be inserted into your page's file. Just follow their step by step instruction.

What kind of site is it? If you are using any standard CMD like Drupal / Wordpress / Joomla, you can add analytics or statcounter (or sitemeter) rather quickly. Otherwise you can include the code generated by analytics/statcounter in your site's footer.

i just created my google analytics account a couple hours ago
    after reading this thread

great tool - wow i have been missing out thanks people

I like statcounter :D had it for a while too

i am capped at the 500 logs :D the free account

can anyone verify if Google analytics does that (showing other search engines results that found your site ) Statcounter.com does that
i have not had enough time yet with my google analytics

i had my google webmaster tool & Website Optimizer a while back -nice tools as well

(statcounter & google Products webmaster tool & analytics & Website Optimizer) are great tool - i would highly recommend the use of all these options

Install the tracking scripts to the footer of every page on your site. Even though google says that you should not use any other script with analytics, its ok to do so. I have used 3 different tracking scripts along with analytics and everything worked out fine.
