Google Analytics – why do my name show up in the search word list

    Hi all :)

I am relatively new here, but hope you can help me with something that has puzzled my mind for the last few weeks. The thing that has puzzled me is the fact the when looking in the list of search words that has brought traffic to the home page on which Google Analytics are used – I am showing up on the list (i.e. “”john doe””) – to me it looks like the name has been taken from the front of cookie names, as an example “john doe@MSN. The logical answer to this is that someone or more have and are making searches with my name and the enters the site via the search result – however all the visits generated from the search word with my name seams to come from one PC, since screen resolution, flash version, City, connection type etc. are the same for all visits – and yes I do very much think it is from my own PC……but why ????

Thanks very much to anyone who can cast a little light over my conundrum.

Are you asking why someone fro your PC is searching for your name? Maybe you were googling yourself and you forgot? You could try supplimenting your data with GoStats which will give you a good look at how your traffic is comming in using the "last guests" feature.

Nope - I am not asking if anyone is searcing my name from my PC......that I am as close to 100% sure (as one can be) is not the case......I feel quit sure the searchs are registred as comming from myself, but I certainly have not made such seach. It is not just one day or one hit - some days it is 2 hits...ohter days 5-6-7, so it could be consistamt with my own visit, but why would those show up in the seach word list ???

Do you mean that new search phrases are showing up each day? Either they are from your or they aren't. If they aren't maybe it's just someone who finds your site by typing your name into google and they check your site for new updates regularly? Other than that I have no idea.

Why don't you filter out your IP address to be 100% sure it's your PC or not. If you don't get searches with your name anymore you'll know.

The "searches" are for sure from my own pc......about that I have no daubt. And in any case filtering out one's own IP address will not be practical when getting a dynamic IP from the ISP.

However bloking for cookies from the site has stoped the "searches", so it must be something related to the possible cookies from adsens/analytics.....just strange that analytics would "track" myself, without me asking it to do so ????

If you don't ask the system to not track you, it won't do it by default. Just another thing to remember.
