The update targets the amount of backlinks, as well as content quality.

 

may be regarding amp pages and pop up banner in mobile sites.

 

Nope! It was nothing to do about AMP pages & popup ads, it's all about Links, Content.

Let me explain, what Google updated was,

It's something which targeted backlinks, paid backlinks, it's targeted those website which able to get High Authority Backlinks for there garbage, spined content.

 

What can we do to Gain our dropped traffic from that update?

 

I think it is very beneficial that we always read the community rules to make sure we are not dishonoring any rules.
