Google Alerts Question

Hi, I have a question about the Google Alerts service. I have a monitor with Google alerts that emails me whenever my site url appears on someone elses site. (Maybe I'm just too vain)

Anyway, I've noticed results recently in alerts that a site contains my url, but when I search the site itself, I do not find it listed.

Is googleblot confused or am I missing something?

    Tks

I see the same thing myself quite often. There is a time delay between when Google sees the url and when they report it to you. Often the page has changed. Some of these pages will change every day or even more often than that.

Or they could be cloaking their site with different information when a bot crawls the site. (black hat technique, easy to verify)

    Thanks.

I'm not sure of the benefit of clocking my url to the googlebot. I certainly did not ask them to do this, nor do I see an obvious benefit to me.

If it did once contain a link to my site. I figured I could find it in the cached version of the page, but I didn't find it there either.

    But thanks for the suggestions
