Google is not dumb.. I've predicted that just like anyone else. No one buys & runs an expensive business without wanting to profit...

It will take a long time to pay off YouTube's backlogged bandwidth debt, especially with the recent crackdown on copyrighted videos.

this was bound to happen, no one owns something without wanting some type of profit in return.

    it cost them 1.65 Billion!

It will take them a very long time to get that money back but I don't think they care about getting it back to quickly as they are already massive.

Good. Now I think it's only a matter of time before the major content producers start posting stuff like full TV shows on YouTube as part of an advertising revenue-sharing deal with Google. I'm sick of all the popular TV clips showing up on YouTube and then getting removed a few hours later.

Wow, the idea they've come up with the video ad looks interesting. Looking forward to see how it is implemented. :)

Sounds almost exactly like VideoEgg's advertising model. The ads aren't too invasive, but I don't know how effective they are. Ideally, this will be paid on ad impressions, not click-throughs. That should be a more profitable approach for the video medium.

I second that notion, capitalism rules, there's nothing wrong with wanting to make money, after all they are not running a charity especially considering the billion dollar plus acquisition.:D

Google never claimed to run a charity. They have to monopolize on the popularity of youtube. Is anyone really surprised? Duh, sooo late. I would've done it long time ago.

Should be interesting to see how they implement the ads - and how they limit their scope, etc.

Be annoying for them to set up "intermissions" with advertisements during the clip.

Thats why I got Tivo so I could skip the commercials! :)
