Based on analysis, Google adsense provides better CTR (click-through-rate) which means whenever a person visits your website, greater are the chances of generating clicks from the visitor. The more people visit and click the ads, the more money the advertisers will pay to the website owner. The reason is that, Google ads are more content specific and target audience better than Yahoo ads. Yahoo, on the other hand, provides a better CPC(cost-per-click). CPC is nothing but the percentage of commission the affiliate programs pays, per click. For a single click, Yahoo pays more than Google

From a publisher or web developer's point-of-view, Google Adsense is a hands-off approach to earning revenue from your website. You insert a snippet of code and Google serves up the ads. It's "fire-and-forget." Along with this, you have little control over what ads appear on your site. You earn money on a "pay-per-click" basis.

Google's Affiliate Network, however, requires more input from a web developer/publisher. You choose what advertiser's links, images and/or ad copy appear on your site. Advertiser updates occur daily, which means you need to be ready, willing and able to integrate those changes into your site. This is not "fire-and-forget"; it's much more hands-on for the average publisher. Finally, you earn a commission on the sale of an advertiser's product instead of on the simple click of the ad.

I employ both types of ads on my sites.

Google adsense is pretty bad because you have to have tons and tons of traffic. Google's Affiliate network requires a bit of your participation. That's the difference. You earn money for sales instead of ad clicks.

Earning from Adsense is really very slow now, a lot of visitors just like to skip the google ads, maybe most of them are adsense advertiser themself?
