Google Adwords worked great on day one and now nothing

I started a campaign on Christmas eve. My max was .12 cents a click. I had 14000 impressions and 37 clicks and actually got a sign up to my site. After that it dropped right off. Now the bid prices have increased drastically. I have money sitting in my account, not in use so I increased many of my keywords to .35 cents to be "Eligible". I got a couple hits and it stopped again. Now I look again and the bid price is .45 cents. What is with that? How does it work? How could anybody make money at this it is is such a rat race? I am confused.

Anybody have an explanation of what this means, how it happens and how to overcome it?

    Thanks
    Martin

I'm not very good with google adwords...

Someone is bidding hire than you for those keywords... no? You might change the keywords with something similar...

Oh my lord, you fell into the google trap... they check out your site by showing your ads and as soon as the find you have no idea what you are doing they raise the price so high you will not play.
There is no way to play the google game without some itensive study...
You need so many things... and bottom line is quality score. The ads must be very specific and the landing page must be very relevant... google will show some one's elses pages for one dollar over and over while they won't show your pages at all even when you bid 3 bucks..
You said it all when you said 17,000 impressions and 37 clicks.
Your pages are the total pits... and I have never seen them... you gotta put ads out there that will get clicks or you will pay exorbitant prices to get them displayed...

What you don't have Skype... its free and I love it... www.skype.com
I have had thousands of hours of adwords training and am retired and play with it for fun... my advice is free...
I even set up campaigns for beginners to get them on a roll...

    37 / 14 000 = 0.00264285714
With a CTR that low, Google will raise the minimum bid price on you as a natural reflex - everytime.

    For starters:
-Laser target your ads and KW's to your LP content.
-Dump KW's that are driving up impressions, but not resulting in clicks/leads/conversions.

Also, don't forget about Yahoo and Bing. Long ago I used to dump or lose interest in campaigns, after Google wanted nothing to do with them. Big mistake.

Now, I'll test out and tweak campaigns on Yahoo or Bing first. If they perform, then I'll take a crack at Google. Often, my steadily-performing Yahoo or Bing campaigns just won't take off when applied to Adwords. They're a different PPC beast altogether.

    Good luck!

Wow, this is all so very overwhelming. I don't really know anything about SEO. I guess I gotta learn. Do you see anything terrible here. My site is geekblogsetup.com and my ads look like this.

    # We Install WP Blogs
    # $4.99 a Month We Do Everything
    # Buy Domain,Host & WP Install
    # www.geekblogsetup.com

I have another one similar but no WP in it.

Tommy said it: quality score is the bottom line and you need to study. I see many things wrong with the ad you're showing, not surprised you got such a low CTR and QS. I'm betting you are not using the right keywords too which is not helping at all. Let me guess: you are bidding on "wp" and "wordpress".
