    Google AdWordsâ„¢ Announcement
    New Keyword System Released Google

    Hello from the Google AdWords Team:

    We're happy to let you know that we've implemented our new keyword status system. We've simplified our keyword states and introduced quality-based minimum bids, giving you more control to run on keywords that you find important. With these improvements, your keywords will now either be active or inactive, depending on their quality and maximum cost-per-click (CPC).

    We suggest you log in to your account to view these changes. Any keywords that were previously normal, in trial, or on hold are now labeled as either active (triggering ads) or inactive (not triggering ads). Any keywords that were disabled before implementation will remain labeled as disabled in your account for several weeks. This gives you the opportunity to review and activate any disabled keywords you'd like to run on before we delete them. However, we will no longer disable any new keywords you enter into your account.

    Here are some resources that will help you get better acquainted with the new keyword status system:

    * The new performance monitor
    * What's changed FAQ
    * New keyword states

    We believe these system changes will give you more control to run on keywords you find important and result in higher quality ads, enabling you to reach your potential customers more effectively.

    Sincerely,
    The Google AdWords Team

    I like the new system, anyone else?

    Particularly the part where is does not 'Slow' the entire campaign, but just makes the non-performing keywords 'Inactive'

    well, i had a search term that I was the only bidder on and had a very high click thru rate for the small amount of traffic that it produces, at 5 cents, and they made me up the maximum to .10 (don't understand why).

    Not that it's that big of a deal, just doesn't make sense to me.

    I think they are raising the minimums to increase the amount that goes to adsense publishers because of the new yahoo program. If they simply increased the payout percentage it would affect their earnings - which you never want to do - but especially with a public company.

    Certainly fewer people would tend to try the yahoo program if they are seeing a jump in their google payouts. 5 cents doesn't sound like much, but it's a hundred percent increase and I don't know how many 5 cent clicks they get a day - but I'm sure it adds up to millions of dollars.

    Don't like the new system. I think google is trying to raise their minimum bid in disguised form. I have some keyword terms work just fine with their original bids (not very high CTR, but worked fine). With the new system, i have to raise the bid a lot more to keep them active. That's not good at all.

    i just started a new campaign today. Very targeted keyword phrase .... 4 word phrase to be exact. They made me put a minimum bid of .30 ... after about 2 hours of waiting after I increased from .11 to .31 I checked my stats. 33 impressions for this phrase [in brackets], no clicks. So I type in the phrase in google search ... I am the only adword ad.

    I click on it ... it should be .05 since no other advertisers ... nope .. cost me .30 with a .31 max bid

    Don't like the new system so far.

    I don't understand how Google's new keyword system works. Here is an example: say you bid on keyword " abc" at 5c and had 1000s of clicks since ever, what's that mean? It means 5c works for keyword "abc" so far so good, right? But under the new system, "abc" is inactivated. You have to bid a minimum of 10c to activate it. :confused:

    Can anybody explain it?

    It's wierd. Half of my keywords are not available anymore. I have quarter of the impressions. CTR has increased into 5-15% and the clicks are the same as before.

    Wierd.

    ....good I guess.

    i don't understand how budget optimizer works now,
    i've enabled budget optimizer for one of my campaigns but keywords are still inactive :eek:

    i cannot increase bids since budget optimizer automaticaly adjust bids...

    or budget optimizer is incompatible with new system?
    :confused:

    I don't think the budget optimizer will automaticaly adjust your bids. You have to raise your bid to activate the keywords. Maybe I am wrong...
