Google Adwords / SERPS is one giant monopoly

Hey everyone. I have been using Adwords to promote my sites for quite some time, and just a few weeks ago I pulled the plug on my advertising because the site was bringing in just as much organic Google traffic on it's own than from paying for AdWords.

Over a few weeks I have noticed that since I have dropped my adwords campaigns, my SERPS have fallen drastically.

For the querys "ipod modding guides", "free ipod games" my site used to be on the first page. Now they are on pages 5-10!

Tell me this is just a coincidence, or maybe if I resume my campaign my serps will go back to first page.

I'm pretty pissed off about this!

I doubt theres any connection between that, its coincidence i would suggest, google are obviously always updating, tweaking etc and so serps are going to change.

The fact that this has happend for you around the time that you stopping using adwords is just coincidence.

Pipes is right, there's no connection between Adwords and SERPs, well not any that the public knows about ;)

Maybe Google is secretively promoting people that use Adwords with Organic as well, to help them "like Google More" and keep feeding them money :(

Its got nothing to do with you dropping your adwords campaign which was probably a mistake to do...

Organic SERP drives non buying information seeking traffic at times.

Adwords will drive a more targeted buy mind customer usually.

There are a few threads here under SEO about quality sites being dropped to 5th or 6th page in the SERPs as of late....

If you were making money from advertising on Adwords, I'd keep both methods.

They say there's no relation between the two, but I have my doubts as well since they are not known for telling the truth.

Well then can you explain why I and other SEOs have 1,000s of keywords ranking in the top 3 positions and no Adwords accounts for those sites? A few in position for over 4 years and have never fallen from position???

    DJD,

I've had the same experience as you. I paused all of my campaigns a few weeks ago. My organic clicks immediately went up, then after about 3 or 4 days they started a downward curve to where they were close to zero. I unpaused my campaigns a week ago and, voila, they've started to go back up again. I'm speaking of organic Google clicks only, not Adwords clicks. Coincidence? One can never be sure, but I'm going to play around with it some more.

I'm resuming it tomorrow. I froze the payment to them after I saw this happening. I'll pay the bit of money I owe them just to prove it.

Defrauding a customer isn't a very good thing to do.

Ummm what will you do once it continues and you no longer use Adwords??

This is a several year old issue, continually proven to have no relation between organic SERP and adwords usage.

You cannot imagine the hell Google would go through if it were true, in fact they would probably be destroyed and the C suite executives could face possible legal charges....

I have a clients site is ranked on Google front page for the term --casino bonus--- as such there is no Adwords involved

Here are the position changes I have noted in the past two weeks

    # 7 - January 25

    # 12 - February 2

    # 6 - February 5

    # 5 - February 6

    #10 - today :(

Organic SERPs are a living breathing entity which change quite often, to in someway associate that with Adwords usage is without merit or fact.....

    :)
