One tip if your starting is to test with low bids on keywords, then go with what works. Remove the keyword that are no good and not converting. Another thing to keep in mind is to try a number of different ads. Use images and text. But it would be first best to use text as they seem to convert more. Try to be compelling when writing your ad.
Its good to add the generaic & irrelevant terms (not relevant to your niche) in the negative list and after that we should keep checking the search query report on daily bases and if we found any irrelevant click then we should simply add it to the negative list. If some/many keywords are giving us permanent irrelevant click then we should either change the keyword or should simply pause it from the campaign.

You can drive more conversions when your ad text is attractive and the keyword CPC cost is relatively high. You can reduce the CPC cost by running multiple ads and stopping eventually the ones that cost more. You can add Negative keywords to a campaign manually or create a general negative keyword list in Shared Library and then add it from the campaign.
