All of my questions are pertaining to Campaigns set-up to run on the Google Search Network only. 1) When using Google AdWords Editor, can you do a spell check on all your ads and keywords. If so, how do you turn it on or use it? 2) After setting up all your keywords CPC bids, how often should you adjust them to maintain them on the first page of Google Search? It appears that you could do it daily and still not keep up. 3) I notice that sometimes my bids are over, as well as under the first page bid estimate due to the fluctuation of competition for each keyword in any given auction. Should I adjust my keyword bid to the lower bid? I am attempting to get the most clicks for my client who has a low daily budget. Is it necessary to adjust my individual keyword bids down to keep the click cost down thus getting more clicks? I realize that you only pay $.01 more than the bid below your bid so is this necessary? 4) When setting up a brand NEW campaign in AdWords Editor, I assign a low CPC for each keyword, then upload the entire campaign into Google AdWords. Soon after, I select "get recent changes" and include the first page bid estimates. I then have to go through and manually change each keyword CPC bid to the minimum first page bid estimate to ensure that each keyword falls on the first page of search. Is there a way to automatically assign the first page bid estimate to each keyword? If not, is there an fast and easy way of accomplishing this manually? I guess I don't fully understand keyword CPC bidding optimization and would welcome an explanation that make it all clear.
I'll do my best. 1) Not that I am aware of 2) Unless bids fluctuate often because your industry is heavy on seasonality or day parting, you shouldn't have to adjust them all that much. Your ranks will only change when your website changes, Google finally has enough data that your website is either good or bad (quality score change), or if your competitive landscape changes (competition's budget, bid changes, etc). 3) If you move it to the lower bid, you'd save some $$ from a CPC perspective, but you'd probably lose a lot of traffic, as your ads will start showing up off the 1st page more frequently 4) Yes, I believe in Adwords you can set ad group/keyword bids to be aiming for a 8-10 position. Haven't done this in a while, but I am pretty sure this could be done. 5) I keep low search volume keywords in the campaign. Industry experts go either way. But as long as the low search volume keywords are relevant and have good quality score, they aren't hurting your account. Hope this helps! - Greg
Alright, I'll follow greg on this one and respond off the top of my head. 1) There isn't a spell check the entire Editor function that I know of. However, you can spell check a specific field. Right click -> Spell Check this field 2) When first starting a campaign I generally like to keep my bid high enough to rank 1-3. Once your CTR starts coming in, your bid can/should go down slowly. 3) Lowering your bid in this situation is going to cause you to lose a majority of the traffic your getting on any particular keyword. However, you would save a bit on CPC costs. 4) You can use Adwords Position Preference option, which allows you to select your 'preferred' position and Adwords will adjust your bids up and down accordingly. 5) I tend to break off and build out other campaigns based on CTR. If I've got X keywords that are giving me the majority of my volume because they've got an excellent CTR. I'll break them into another campaign entirely and leave the lower volume keywords in the initial campaign. However, that is merely a personal preference. Good luck! Rob
