Corporate pride, greed and mismanagement will be the death of the world economy. Despite the fact that they are losing money hand over fist, the same eyesore corporate ads are still all over AdWords at the same bids as last summer. eBay, you are losing SO MUCH MONEY! Why are you still paying 70 cents per click for "black plague" so that advertisers wishing to turn a profit can't get traffic at rates which accurately reflect the horrible retail climate we're in? This X-mas shopping season was 60% worse than last year yet I paid exactly the same as I paid last year because the jackass corporate fools refuse to show weakness by lowering their bids to a profitable level. Gee, with stocks down 50% you wouldn't want anyone to think you were having trouble would you? No, no, no pretend everything is OK until you show up in Congress hat in hand looking ever so pathetic. Call me when they go bankrupt so I can get some traffic at reasonable rates. I actually did make money this month but the overall results were awful. What's going to happen in January and February when retail sales are terrible even in normal economic times? I can't tighten my belt much further before I squeeze myself to death.
Relax my friend, its not a political forum, unless your willing to do something major with the people you feel are responsible then its not worth getting worked up about. Worldwide problems, were all in the same boat, just need to adapt to save money. Your not going to starve, and in some third world regions they would call you the greedy b**tard, so think yourself lucky.
Easy man..... Ebay pays 1 cent for their ads....where you found they are paying 0.70 is highly WRONG!! Next advertising costs are written off on taxes, so while things may not be rosy, there is a need to even things out so to speak..... so the tax man doesn't take all the money.... Try to remember when a door closes a window opens....instead of worrying about forces you cannot control.... make positive changes to grow your own business so you are not sitting with all your eggs in one basket.
Well, it is a fairly easy calculation to make. If I am paying 0.69, say, for a qs10 keyword and Ebay are appearing above me they are theoretically paying more. How can they only be paying 0.01? Or, are you saying adwords is not the level playing field that Google claim and QS and Adrank only apply to those with limited budgets?
For most advertisers the game is as noted however when you get into 6 figure level then you can buy what is known as remnant ad space. Sort of like you and I can rent a hotel room at the price offered to everyone but a tour operator can rent bulk rooms at a huge discount. Otherwise Ebay would not be able to operate their business financially sound, nor manage the campaigns.... with their current bid on every word known to man theory.... Hope it helps...
Well, that along with dynamic keyword insertion makes sense but in a situation with a large number of advertisers I imagine their ad-ranking must be calculated the same as anybody else's - after all, they are not always on page 1 nor at the top of the rankings. So, I suggest they must bid the same as the rest of us but whether they pay the same is another matter, e.g. I can imagine them negotiating a fairly hefty monthly or annual (or both!) rebate.
P.S. Given recent "goings-on" at Ebay some might argue that they are indeed unable to operate financially soundly! They are certainly going out of their way to alienate a large number of users (like me - closed my shop about 6 months ago and not been back to sell OR BUY since!)
Buying remnant also means you get whats available as fill in....millions of pennies collected daily, eventually equals millions of dollars accumulated and you know, somebody has to pay for Google's Jet.... As far as having your shop shut down, there are other ways to skin a cat.....you can't change the past, but You CAN change the future!!
