Google Adsense video ads

I recently saw an adsense video ad on my site and I'm not sure I like it (as a publisher). It was (for an online ad) crisp, clear and not too shabby at all. And several times throughout the movie ad, the site name was spoken and put up for easy reading.

My issue (as a publisher and since I'm interested in people clicking on the ads) has to do with whether or not people viewing the ad would click on the ad.

Since the site address was shown and very easy to see, I (if I had seen this ad on someone elses site and I was interested) would have just popped open a new browser and typed in the address because that was what the ad seemed to imply I should do.

It wasn't obvious to me at all that if you were interested in the product that you should (or even could) click on the ad again to go the product website.

Anyone else have the same reaction? Or was it just this particular ad?

    Hi Mike --

Not all video ads are paid on a cost-per-click basis. Video ads can be either site targeted or contextually targeted. Publishers will be paid for site-targeted video ads on a CPM basis. For contextually targeted video ads, publishers will be paid for clicks to the advertiser's landing page. Clicks are generated either by clicking on the display URL at the bottom of the ad, or by clicking on the video itself during play.

Both types of ads compete in the same ad auction, and a combination of bid price and quality score are taken into account automatically to ensure that the best performing ads always appear on your site (for more information about ad rank, please see http://adsense.blogspot.com/2006/02/ad-rank-explained.html )

For more information about how CPM ads work, please see http://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/answer.py?answer=18185 .

To check what types of ads are appearing on your site, please see http://adsense.blogspot.com/2006/03/advanced-site-targeting-and-referrals.html .

    Hope that helps,

    ASA

Dazed, I couldn't get one to appear, but I am sure one would in that box near the bottom? I only got test ads, but will check back later, thanks.
