I can't tell you if what you did is against TOS but I would not just give up on AdSense. Even if you are not making money from it now, it is always good to have access to it in the future because what if you manage to create a very popular site and you need AdSense to monetize it someday? I wouldn't risk having my account banned just because it is not making me money now. Just my thoughts!
There is a program that actually does this. They sell it under "Adsense Decorator" or "Beautifier" or something like that. Still, I have no idea if it's within their TOS.
Very nice trick, but be care about these things. I advice you to email Google about before doing it... cheers, xcelent88
It does look good. But I gotta agree that it probably qualifies as a graphical gimmick and is against TOS. However, it also had the opposite effect I think you were going for. First off, I didn't see it. Once it is finally found, an average user may not even realize it's a clickable link, so I wouldn't be surprised if click-through actually goes down. -boxer126
I had to look really hard to find it. Will be interesting to see how it works out for you. Nice blog BTW.
I was staring at that page for 5 minutes before I saw that it was a google ad. I guess that means it works. Is it against TOS...not sure. In my opinion, it's no different than blending your ad with a colored background. Just because you have the little arrow thingies around it I can't see that breaking any rules, but you should check with GOO to be sure.
i saw this trick in some other site as well as in adsense black hat ebook. i do not believe it is within TOS as it is drawing undue attention to the ad. be careful
Well if this creates attention towards the ad causing it to violate the TOS, then why did so many people here have a harder time finding it? my CTR increased from .something% to a little over 4% within hours making me $10 for yesterday with 22 clicks. verses a couple clicks I was getting everyday before the ad background. I think I'm going to leave the ad like this until google says something, i might move it to a more noticable place. Someone said that google will only warn me at first and tell me to take it down and not ban me, correct? I think I'm gonna do a post on my blog about this soon.
I don't want to put your hopes up, but your risking a lot...I would just email google and ask if this sort of ad "setting" is allowed. You have heard of the stories, sometimes they give you a warning, sometimes they don't if you lose adsense, that's it for the domain, your never going to get back in. Not a good move, you have to wait until 'Big G' gives you the nod.
I think that is OK, I have read an ebook that tell me to put an adsense in the middle of image. How long have you been design like that? any warning from adsense email or not?
If Google does not allow this, they should. I think people are getting immune to adsense on some of my sites. Having more control over layout and appearance would help everyone, so long as its not abused.
