Thank you very much DaStarBuG, I read your success story and your business turn from dark to light, It is very very nice and helpful.
It's Spanish! He is saying "I'm using a method that works 15 000 u $ d per month Check it out in very good secretoadsense.com"
Nice tip but I just do "Website Name - Header Ad 720x90" etc. Whatever works though. I am sure everyone has their own little way of tracking.
DaStarBuG, I am going to have to sit down some weekedn and digest this all, but this is exactly what I am looking to do this fall. i currently have over 50 adsense channels, and they are all scatterred and not helpful, with many being created years ago when I just started getting into Adsense and not knowing what I was doing. I don't run forums but I have a classified ads section for cars, and Iw ill be importing over 20,000 ads over the next 90 days with over 100 different models. I plan on creating channels for each model, labeling them as such "Ford Mustang", "Chevrolet Corvette", etc.
This is very helpful post, thanks! I'm curious how do you name your ad units over multiple web sites?
Didn't you read my post? I explained it in detail I use Acronyms for every website like: PatFra for Patientenfragen.net EltFra for Elternfragen.net DiaFra for Diabetesfragen.net AdsExp for AdsenseExperts.com
Please excuse my Peon mistake...I thought you were describing how you named Custom Channels not Ad Units.
Thank for the information I too have lot of good luck with channels it helps you better organize and test the ads placements etc in order to find that sweet spot that works best for a particular site.
I do use the same naming system for ad units as for channels. E.g.: AdsExp - LR - WT - Ads Pro Would translate to: AdsenseExperts.com - Large Rectangle - Next to Welcome Message in every Thread - in the forum Adsense Professionals There are so many ways to use Channels and the one I described is only one way. I will discuss different approaches to the use of channels on my forum www.AdsenseEXperts.com the next few days, so watch out for it StarBuG
As you rightly say with only one site and a few ads it is pretty easy to keep track of everything.. What you will also need is a lot of impressions.
You should add the need to keep a log, a journal of changes in ad placement and earning stats (ecpm, ctr, cpc, impressions, ...) at different point in times because it's easy to forgot what you were testing and what to do with the results now, go back or improve some more, etc. Personally I used custom channels a lot in the past but now I only have one channel url per website and simply use it to spot any big problem (drop in ad impressions or in ctr) and I don't do testing to the ad block level anymore. But I should do it, because then I could certainly optimize my earnings more by removing some underperforming ad blocks or by making more ad placement changes to my sites. The problem is I have finally decided that I can settle for a CTR of 5% minimum, so when I do a new site I put the ads where I know they work and if the CTR is always at 5% or above, I don't bother optimizing any more, so that removes the need for custom channels and spending time. But I know I'm leaving money on the table with my internal rule of ctr 5%, because it doesn't take into account the most important factor which is eCPM, not CTR or CPC!
