Google AdSense team is testing a new feature

I sent an email to Google AdSense tech support asking them whether or not publishers will be able to implement similar strategies to what a saw in realadventures.com (i have nothing to do with the company, here's a sample url with the feature: http://www.realadventures.com/pages/macau.htm) and here’s the answer I received, translated from the original Portuguese mail message.

“The feature mentioned is one of the many new features Google AdSense team is testing now with a limited number of publishers. Unfortunately right now we can’t offer this feature to other editors. You’ll be notified in case these new feature is available to other publishers.”

What do you think about this way of displaying AdSense ads?
Do you know anything else about this "new feature"?

    Thanks in advance,
    Filipe

(this is my first post here so please apologize if I did something wrong)

Wow, I really like that, it looks very clean and crisp. If that guy threw images next to them like he did the rest of his links im sure his CTR would shoot up alot. I see they got rid of Ads by Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooogle, and made it alot more discreet.

I kinda wish they'd let adwords advertisers upload a small 60x60 image or something to display next to their adsense ads. It'd eliminate people doing it on their site nad let us control what pictures are displayed.

As an adwords person I do not like that format as listed above. Its way too similar to normal text on the page and more prone to errant clicks.

I'm not an AdWords advertiser, but I definitely do not like that. If ads blend too much, the advertisers will pay for wasted clicks which don't generate income for them -- giving them more reason not to offer advertisements on our sites.

I only want real clicks from people really interested in the site they are clicking into. If they click into a site and immediately click the back button, my website is not doing its job for those paying my bills.

Forgot to say that a couple of weeks or so ago, when I first saw their site, they had a red button saying “more info” next to every single add and if you clicked on the button (a jpg image) the advertiser web page would open in a new window. Can’t find any page with that behaviour now (and didn’t “print screened” it neither, when I saw it), so I can’t prove what I'm saying to you.

i agree with you on this one, we all want to earn more money but instant clicks will just drive the prices down.

I wish they would remove the Ads by google part as well. The ads should look even more discreet.

They might be testing different layouts because a couple of weeks ago the “Ads by Google" message only appeared next to the last ad, not next to every single ad. When I took a look at the code, the number of ads displayed on a certain “block” was configurable using a variable called “google_max_num_ads”. Let’s wait and see what Google has to announce to AdSense publishers during the following months.

I know alot of people do that, but I believe it's agaist the TOS which is why that publisher isn't doing it. You can't draw undue attention to the ads.
