Google AdSense Phone Verification

Why do I need to verify my phone number?

As part of our effort to protect the accounts of AdSense publishers and provide account-specific support, a valid phone number is required for all publishers. We use automatic telephone number verification to ensure that your information is accurate and up-to-date.

    How does phone verification work?

Phone verification is completely automated - you'll only need to key in a 6-digit personal identification number (PIN) using your touch-tone telephone.

When you're ready to verify your number, click the link provided in the email you received from Google AdSense. This link will bring you to the Phone Verification Setup page, from which you'll be able to initiate the call or set a convenient time for our system to call you. Have your PIN ready - the number of PIN entry attempts is limited.

Can I participate in AdSense if I don't provide my phone number?

All applicants must verify their phone number as part of the sign-up process. You will not be able to participate in AdSense without a valid number.

    Privacy

Google respects and protects your privacy. Your phone number will not be used for any purpose other than confirming your control of the phone number listed in your account.

Perhaps it's implemented for U.S.-only. No verification here (international).

I hope they don't try that with me. I'm very quick to hang up when I know an automated dialer has called me. There is a perceptible delay when you first pickup before the recording starts and I slam the phone when I hear that.

Seems like I recall this when I (a U.S. resident) signed up a year ago. But Google never telephoned and I was accepted.

I also never had to do this. But I've signed up over a year ago.

Looks like they have lots of people with fake info signing up if they're doing this.

If your account was approved before Google began issuing PINs on January 28th, 2005, then you don't need to enter the PIN or activate over phone.

    AFAICT

That explains why I never got one! I was approved a couple of months before that, and even though I had made only a couple of bucks at that point, I was watching the mail a few months later to see if a nice postcard would show up -- instead, I got a check! Lucky me.

I think about a year ago, Google may have called just to make sure was valid? I believe it was, but I could of been mistaken with another program.
