Hi DPs, We at MenDNA.com just launched our men blog site and we would like to ask whether have anyone tried using leaderboard banner on their site and how's the earnings from it. We'r still deciding whether we should use text leaderboard or image leader board and we really appreciate that you could share with us your experience from image leaderboard and whether text advertisment pays much more than image. Thanks, The Guys at MenDNA.com
I've had a lot better results with text-only ads, rather than image ads, with any format. I've seen a lot of good results using that format, 728x90, along with 160x600.
We'r using the format that you mentioned on our site too, but the for the top, we'r using image instead of text as it looks much better.
Your image ad is still showing "Public service ads" on some pages including the frontpage when I looked at it. You should perhaps set the ad to display a solid colour if no image ad is available.
Thank you so much for your kind help, fsmedia! We'r new to this whole adsense thingy and yup! We've changed accordingly as you have suggested. We think the problem behind this is that there are too little banners in the google adsense program currently (correct us if we'r wrong) therefore we keep getting PSA. So we thinking of experimenting with text instead (but it look kinda ugly in our opinion) Updates: Think we stick to having it black..... What do you recommend? Cheers, The Guys at MenDNA.com
Why not include an "alternate AD URL" when generating the google code; that way you get rid of the Public Service Ads permanently. Nice Blog you have there my friend! Which blog software are you using? If WordPress, where can I get a template similar to your?
Hi, The Alternate AD URL looks kinda "unprofessional", my ideal banner ad will one that have images.. but doubt alternate AD URL has that function (correct me if i'm wrong) The template source can be seen from the footer of the MenDNA.com however, it has been heavily modified to suit our own needs. Thanks for your kind comment on our site too! Cheers, The Guys at MenDNA.com
Alternate Ad URL allows you to specify a page that will be loaded instead of the adsense banner. For example, you can create a page like this: <html> <a href="http://www.alternateadvertiser.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.yoursite.com/alternateads/alternatebanner.jpg" alt="My alternate banner" border=0 /> </a> </html> HTML: If Adsense has nothing to show, it will load that alternate url in an iframe. On a more advanced level, you could design a php script that will alternate banners. It's something I have done on the first site in my signature. For example, check this link : http://www.helpedia.com/news/Two.US.Senators.Wish.To.Revive.XXX.Domains-news111.html Because XXX (and probably other "bad" words) appears in the title and text, Adsense won't show ads and switch to public service announcements, however I have specified : http://www.helpedia.com/advertising/ad_leaderboard.php as alternate ad url, which simply takes a random banner from a banner database.
Here is another example - View the source code. I created rotating banners in Commission Junction, then pasted the Javascript to a simple html page as mariush has described above, them simply pasted the url in the Adsense code - Works perfectly whenever Google has no Ads to serve. http://tinyurl.com/j69pt
Hi Guys, That's really cool!! Thanks for sharing. Kindly recommend a random banner database program so i can sign up for banners too, to prevent our site from looking abit "off" with that empty space. Cheers, The Guys at MenDNA.com
Commission Junction is the king of them all. The thing I like most about CJ is the ability to create "SMARTZONES". In a smartzone you can rotate upto 25 banners on your website using 1 line of javascript code provided by CJ....Perfect for ALT Ads. Find out here: www.cj.com OTHERS: 1. www.linkshare.com 2. www.reporting.net 3. www.reporting.net I am sure there are many more out there.
