Just watch non tech people use the web. They don't surf the way we do. had a friend drop by, she doesn't have a PC, & doesn't know how to use the web. I was looking something up for her while she sat next to me.

She sees FLASHING BANNER AD, IT SAYS YOU WON.

I tell her, just ignore that, I didn't really win anything, it's BS.

She says, BUT IT SAYS YOU WON!.

I tell her it's just BS, and she says, BUT IT SAYS YOU WON!

    <SIGH>

Adsense will be around for a long time.

When people are looking for something, they check out advertising. Don't you do so when you are going to buy a car. You begin to watch the car ads on TV, you check out the prices in the newspaper or online, then you do some hardcore research for the models you really like. That's why advertising works, people either need info or they are, at least, curious about something.

Adsense is an effective way to reach potential customers. I click on adsense ads (NOT MY OWN), when I do a search or whatever, if I am looking for something. Sometimes I get the info I want and sometimes I have to keep searching.

Yes, but do you ever pull out your credit card and spend money on something you have clicked online?... because that is the key, for the system to grow and be profitable, there has to be money coming in to justify the money going out... customers clicking that aren't spending money, and lots of it, aren't going to keep the system going in the long run

I must say that I like the widgetbucks ads atm, getting a clickrate of about 3% and they pay around 50 cents per click. Sometimes I get more with adsense per day, sometimes more, but it is so variable.

Maybe some day google will come up with different looking ads (like they allready do with corporate clients, they can get different looking ads)

As a reply to the previous poster: there is currently around 4.000.000.000 Euro's spend per year on the internet, that's quite some money, and where money is, there is advertisement.

    Well, uh, yes... on occasion.

And you are right, advertising must turn into sales, some of the time. But this is the basis of trade in general. Someone shouts out I have "chickens" for sale in the marketplace. "Plump Chickens" and eventually someone shouts back, "How much?" and the economic cycle continues...

As long as there are buyers and sellers, ads will be in place as a bridge of communication. The ancient Greeks used to write Wine ads on the walls of buildings... "Great Macedonian Wine, the favorite of Alexander the Great, etc." ;)

    Yes and NO.

Yes, bz many people don't click on them, for the reason you stated
    but
No, bz many people have no idea about what Adsense is. yes its true, I have completed my Bachelor in computer engineering degree. In my last semester, I had 33 classmates, and no one knew anything about adsense.

Well, it all depend on your niche. For example, not every body knows or bothered with the income generated by the clicks. If your website is about recipes and main readers are ladies who cooks and goes to work, they will know little much about adsense and stuff and may not bother about income generated from there to the webmaster. They will click when they see something interesting.

But if you have a website is for webmasters.... then it is different stories. They know that when they click you make money. This could hinder them form clicking....

Google may need to change their ads up a bit. Maybe Google doesn't care so much about Adsense, as they may be getting more of their income elsewhere. I'm not sure.

    Hi there,

Being a webmaster I know Adsense+Adwords for more than three years.

From a Buyer's Point of View: Recently, I was looking for buying some of the best templates for Joomla. I found a website through Google and on that website I found a exact match of my requirements in a Google Ad. After doing little research on that website I purchased templates through Google Ad.

So, I think when people (whether normal web users, newbie, buyer or webmasters) find their required products, services or information in the Ads, they naturally click them.

    Regards

I hope that everyone here isn't putting all their marbles into Google Adsense....I mean, it's great and all, but, it's always good to have multiple streams of revenue, JUST in CASE......

What are some other things you all do to make money online? Iv'e set up affiliations through CJ and linkshare.....Even if each thing you do only makes a $1 or 2 revenue everyday.....it could really add up as some good passive income.....

Google AdSense has one of the crappiest customer support services in the business. Not really weird, considering they have such a huge base of clients and it's probably difficult to handle them all.

There are plenty of monetization solutions out there for publishers WAY BETTER than AdSense in 80-90% of cases. However, AdSense is easier to implement and more popular, that's why a lot of people go with it, desipte the crap customer support and the inferior payout.

For me, Oxado, valueclick and adtoll work a lot better than AdSense in all but one of my niches
