This is just depressing. So much for Google being impartial. Maybe we knew it all along but were in denial. Here's the rest of the article: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/12/12/googlewashing_revisited/
I highly doubt its for all keywords, but it does sound logicaly when it comes to those major movies, i mean how can a movie with a generic name become first on google in such a small time, think about it guys. Thanks
Shit ! They will have to create a new algorithm is order to keep the picked content out without it re-appearing. Aaah, google will soon rule the world Ruuuuun !!
true, I work at google but we only do this for VERY competitive search terms. e.g. mobiles or ipod for these very much searched results we have to ENSURE that only the best content is their. e.g. 007 film.
I think that with the ever increasing amount of spam, I'd really not be surprised if more and more hand picking did not come out. And I think that in letting the end users do it will be even better... that way they will know even better which computers/ips to completely and totally ignore....and when it comes to that, I'm hoping they will share such info with Stumbleupon & Digg Anyone wanna pay me to nudge their page, lol. (joking)
Did anyone actually read the article? If people read the article they will find that we already knew about it... and that the writer kinda got things mixed up and wrong. It isn't Google Staff who select things to appear... as the article was basically outlining a possible future direction that may be taken when people vote up results or eliminate them when they are logged into their Google Account and doing a search. If 1000s of users voted for an article and promoted it and eliminated other results... it stands to reason the article that got promoted would rank higher as it would appear to be more relevant or useful to people using that query.
Far from the end of SEO, a member who posted earlier is correct though, a movie cannot be indexed easily... It needs manual submission.
Thanks for the link As explained in another article from the register.co.uk the deal with yahoo would not have been a good move for google since it would probably cause a antitrust lawsuit which would have taken a pick at the "black box" of adwords and would not be to google's benefit
