How often, when you do a Google search do you look at an ad and copy and paste the URL instead of clicking on it?
the only reason i could see in doing this is if its your competitors site or the site is very against your principles/morals
I do it sometimes, when I don't like the site which I am on. Mostly, when I see a good ad on some spammy site.
I'm not sure why I do it sometimes. The major reason that pops to mind is that I want to see their root page. If it isn't spammy and has some pagerank I might stay or again I might go back and see the specific target page that they wanted me to see.
I have never done it but I might if I ever do some "shady" searches but I don't trust AdWords advertisers on "shady" searches so I never click on them anyway I think some advertisers just scream to get caught when they use AdWords to promote "shady" stuff and my rule is if someone is yellin' than I'm runnin'
I'm curious to the mentality of the person who said "always". Also this is a group of educated internet users, I wonder what the general poll of all people would show. Thanks for participating!
Yes, occasionally. If an ad is running on my site, and the Heading doesn't match the advertisement and/or the domain name - I want to check to see if I want that ad to continue running on my website. BTW, I manually type in the URL rather than copy/pasting - don't want to risk an illegal click. For example, dating site ads often have headings such as "Nuns" or "Catholic schools." I have nothing against dating sites - they usually pay higher for clicks, but I do have something against false advertising.
From time to time I will copy the URL of an ad if it is a competitive ad to an AdWords campaign I'm running so that I don't make the advertiser pay for my scoping out the competition. I will also copy the URL of an ad displayed on my pages if I'm interested in it for some reason.
I never do it. However a friend of mine suggested going click crazy on my compitions ads so that it costs them more for my useless traffic. I didn't do but it was tempting.
Google uses something they call "Smart Pricing", or something like that. Basically if you keep clicking ads each click is not charged as much and quickly gets to the point of being free. Probably only could cost them a few dollars at best.
I totally agree. If an ad really strikes me when I'm on either a spammy site or a poorly designed site, I'll cut and paste.
