Have you seen this: http://groups.google.com/group/google-sitemaps/browse_thread/thread/f205fbfdafd68c56/8f888f99c8ffb143 Sorry cant shorten it I havent got link rights. Nearly 300 pages of deindex problem. Google employee started it asking people for URLs of there sites that had been deindexed.
Thanks, Caios. This is the live link: http://groups.google.com/group/goog...read/thread/f205fbfdafd68c56/8f888f99c8ffb143 And this is what Google Employee hasa to say there: Here's another related post: http://groups.google.com/group/goog...bfdafd68c56/c6ceefc56314a917#c6ceefc56314a917
That's crap too, I know for a fact pages have been dropped from the index, not just from the site: command.
I added something to that post, Roman, where the Sitemaps guy seems to be acknowledging that there are also some other indexing problems not related to Sitemaps and that they are forwarding reports to the appropriate people.
Google doesnt need to whine- they bark and when they do they get our attention ... google can afford to lose a little money while redesigning! Many of us are very dependent on them as we have entered into a business relationship where we stake our incomes on them doing things fairly and quickly. I think the whining part could be left out ... this is no hobby for many of us..
So are sitemaps working the in opposite way as intended? mm I don't think so. Our problems aren't related to sitemaps, and aren't related to the site: query being broken. I'm not saying it wasn't broken, but this bullshit we are being fed doesn't answer why thoudands of our pages have been de-indexed, leaving alot of peole only with there index/home pages on google.
Uh, my comment was intended as humor, Helmethead... aar, aar... And see above: The sitemaps team (unlike certain other Google segments *cough* Matt Cutts *cough*) is in fact acknolwedging that there are problems in Google that have nothing to do with Sitemaps or the site: query - see the comment about passing reports along to other departments.
Thanks alot Minstrel for making this post it has eased alot of my worries .. ALOT! I have watched my sites literally plummet , even ones that are my babies and get alot of my attention to get fresh new content.
Thanks for the link, Minstrel. Seems that techmeme.com is caught in a 302 redirect hijack bug with the brand new domain. But that isn't something broken in google, is it? I hope the link to Claus gets his attention.
Anyone else seeing any improvements? I found somewhere to winge, jump in with me!: http://groups.google.com/group/google-sitemaps/browse_frm/thread/52e7fbf1668f56b1/cb5bf20f0e416034#cb5bf20f0e416034
Nope!!! Even the hyphenated domain that I had with 300,000 results a week ago has lost about 100,000 results...when you enter site:.
This is from the initial post. The link is not opening on my side. Can someone see if the link opens. thx
Sitemaps worked quite well initially, enabling parts of some of my sites to be indexed by google that weren't before. Then it all started to go pear shaped with vast numbers of pages being de-indexed from google (traffic from one of my sites that's been around since 2001 dropped by 50% overnight). This was not the sort of behaviour I would have expected with a sitemap in place. The only conclusion I could come to (and it's only a considered hunch) as it had happened to 3 out of 4 of my sites was that sitemaps was not working properly so decided to remove my sites from google sitemaps and to alter my sites so that all pages are easier to get to by the crawlers in the first place. Once this fiasco has settled down I'll consider putting sitemaps back on, but not until then. John
Many non sitemap ppl have been de-indexed. I've only put one site in the sitemap, thingy and found it worthless...many months ago.
