    Hi webmasters,

one of my client has updated URL rewriting with ASP Pages to html pages URL Structure in their website.

now we have More than 350 Old pages that are already indexed in search Engines , but these are Totally useless pages due to old URL name.

so my client want to get remove them, they've done 301 redirection to these all the old pages to index page so if you click on any old page so these pages'll come in index page.

What we want to do is 301 all of these pages to their parent pages on the same site, but higher up in the tree.

Should We 301 all of them or Should I do a robots.txt block on them, and then 301 them once they fell out of the index?

Should I just let them go 404, and fix the links so no user can see them?

I think a 301 would be the best, but more than 300 Pages of 301s to go up in index page - will that create Problem with google.

one of my friend suggested me to find some old powerful pages and 301-redirect them, and let all the rest go 404. “

this is the right way or what would be the best option according to your experience ??

Please advise, your comments would be appreciated.

    Eric

Personally I'd leave them forwarding to the index page, block further indexing for them via robots.txt and create and submit a sitemap with all the new pages.
