43 Votes YES 29 Votes NO By some survey. First, Google will compete with another operating system, Linux, that has tried fruitlessly to replace Windows on consumer PCs. What is your openion
Don't be too quick to rush to conclusion. i hope it doesn't fail though it won't benefit me in any way for the next 2 years i guess.
No chance of failing.. let us see its features and also the new thing.. Sure Google will show some magic with it
What kind of magic can you show with another OS, there is no magic. And we all know that the big companies like to play with the data. I'll probably install it and see what it can do, but renouncing to windows is not a good idea I always had a dual boot system: linux/windows.
Google is more likely to fail to beat Microsoft but can beat linux and other versions... But they will surely make MS shit their pants BUT Google Chrome OS is aimed at NetBooks so it won't really beat MS.
Actually, Google has failed at every other potential profit making business sector with the obvious exception of Advertising. They don't even make money off of the search engine (do you pay to search?), which is the perceived "business" that google is in. They are an advertising company, pure and simple. As to Chrome Google OS... Lipstick + Linux = Nothing Exciting?
WOW a survey of 72 people. if they make a PC ver....even if it became the best flavor of linux,it still wouldn't make a dent to microsoft. some facts: 90% use windows 6% use mac OS 4% use linux 90% of windows sales are from computer manufacturers. that leaves 13% of people to convinced to use their OS.as i see it,the succeed line is if they can get 1% of people using it.
We can't really tell at all if they will fail or not because the OS is not yet released. They may succeed or not the first time, but I am sure they can develop it better just like Microsoft. I think people are willing to try it out as soon as possible.
It would be hard to beat Linux since ChromeOS IS Linux. False! While initially it will come out for netbooks, it will run on any computer system.
So they have not failed. In fact, while Microsoft will report sharply lower earnings on Thursday for the 3rd straight quarter, Google just reported increased earnings for more than 2 years straight. So you didn't read what ChromeOS can do? Or did you not understand it?
Read a bit more carefully, Doctor. They have failed at EVERY business venture with the EXCEPTION of advertising. They even failed to create meaningful revenues from their SEARCH APPLIANCE (yeap - they couldn't even productize their own product). Yes, their revenue and profits are enormous and laudable; however, those streams are derived from ONE source: advertising. Also, please note that I did not defend Microsoft, so I am not sure why you mentioned it.
Okay, please do tell. They are using Linux as their kernel for "their" operating system. Chrome is the browser being used. It will be focused on netbooks. Okay, that is the limit of my understanding. Frankly, I do not understand it. What can ChromeOS do?? I am open to being educated - what am I missing?
I always believe in crossing the bridge, only when it comes. Let the release happen and then trying the same will help us better understand whether it is good or bad...Till then, it would be wise to hold our horses! Regards, RightMan
