Hum.. what do you mean? Looks like the case here is possible non unique content thus the indexed pages are reduced.

Maybe your sitmap content would be updated daily.. If its so then its sure that it will decrease..

Probably because of a different datacenter or duplicate content.

If your getting hundreds of submissions all of a sudden and publishing them, it looks like you have been added to somebodys software submission list. in which case you will be getting tons of duplicate submissions, which in google's eyes are not worth displaying in their index

pages submitted through sitemap and indexed pages are different.
I think you should improve the quality of web content.

Google puts some of the pages in supplemental results. That means the site: search operator will not show them. Your pages may also be getting de-indexed because of a heavy duplicate content penalty.

It's likely that Google is just updating or your site has duplicate content. Maybe even flagged.

I wouldn't worry too much, people get too concerned about not having all their pages indexed but the truth is that I don't know of any site that gets all pages indexed. If visitors aren't coming through to you from the 800 or so other pages that google has indexed then either you need to consider whether your site is offering content that your visitors want or give up and start again. I'm sure your site is fine.
