Well since google uses "Goog" for NASDAQ, its pretty much a trademark issue... not a big deal...

The owner screwed up. His submission to WIPO contained only an admission of guilt and of "bad faith" and a request that the name be given to Google. Based on that WIPO did not waste time looking at the merits of the case. If the owner had just kept his mouth shut WIPO may have ruled in his favor.

Do people forget that Google is a word for the number 1 with 100 zeros after it..?

I'm pretty sure that existed before 1998

Google's titanic arrogance will be sank by some unseen iceberg soon.

you guys have to see it from the point of view of google, what if someone made a blog called msftblog.com

microsoft would take legal action because msft is the stock symbol for microsoft just like goog is for google.

    haha that's embarrassing

either way its far from dodgy it just doesn't seem right to take down someone's site because it has "goog" in it. Do all those "Google Money Making Kit" programs and "Google Adsense Wizard" websites get away with it because it doesn't have a stock symbol :p? I mean there are heaps of them yet googblog gets the boot? Was the content particularly worse?

Something just seems "off" about shutting down the site... =\

    Google is not a word.
Googol is the word for the number 1 with 100 zeros
When Google started they took googol and and made a variant spelling.

If you use it to promote google, they wont bother u :p

They'll bother u if u try to make profits using their name, which could be the case with GoogBlog.com users may think it as a blog from google...
