    Too funny :D

If "TripOver" didn't give it away, then "Goo.glicio.us" should have.

    LOL

This is plain and simple "Bullshit"
Do you think Google will read the comments and rank websites accordingly ?
    Give me a break!

They might use Page Rate to remove spammy sites manually. But i am sure Page rate won't have any thing to do with the Google algo.

Or maybe Google rename only from Pagerank to Pagerate but same calculation.

Well folks.... it is interesting actually... but put together wrong.

    1. No announcement from G - so it is all theory.

    2. PageRank - weighting based on nodes (backlinks) ain't goin nowhere

That said, there was an interesting patent in Aug of last year on - System and method for supporting editorial opinion in the ranking of
    search results

This does support an end user model for a given layer in the scoring/ranking system.

    Further to that, there are some recent ones on using end user data ( could be logged in user or other methods such as IP or a toolbar etc..). There are even ranking mechnisms relating to performance metrics and so on with;

Method and apparatus for learning a probabilistic generative model for text

    and

Ranking documents based on large data sets

So, my point is that there are more than a few ways to peel an onion. PageRank concepts/methods don't need to go anywhere.. that doesn't mean that such methods couldn't be layered on top of it.

So, the story wasn't really put together well, but that doens't mean there isn't every possibility that a 'rating' type metric won't be included in the Tool Bar at some point....

Yes and do a search for "Page Hijack Exploit: 302, redirects and Google" and you will realise how serious this is.

What is really funny is how much Google truly owns the internet.
People spend half their lives trying to get listed, noticed and ranked.

Skimming through the article, I get the feeling Google just might come up with a StumbleUpon clone and gobble that up too!
    They own everything else.

Pagerate? These rumors are getting out of control. Maybe we should start a thread top 100 Google rumors. Completely unofficial. This one will probably be some where in the top ten. I used to recommend newbies to go to forums and learn as much as possible but I'm beginning to think that's not a good idea anymore. This happens to be one of the best forums out there and look at the junk that gets posted here.

Exactly. I can see it now in DigitalPoints marketplace.

"Will pay X, for X Google votes."

If this were true, which I am pretty sure it is not, it will lead do nothing to lead to a more natural method of rating/ranking websites at all.

Worthless.... If that was the case then the website rank can be easily manipulated. It would mean that the more friends you have the higher your website will be ranked. I better start on adding more friends to MySpace :D

googlicious? Come on :) It seems like a joke to me.
There are other ways if google wants to replace or upgrade the pagerank. And this particular idea of pagerate is not fair enough to give ratings to pages.

I read your article and now wonder if I am abouts to waste money promoting my site through page ranking facilities on line and in fact adword through Google?

As a classifieds site, it depends heavily on ranking high in search engine listings and as it is pointed mostly to the Portuguese and spanish markets, primarily Google is the main preferred search engine.

So my big question is, does this swing or change in Googles ranking system render the Google Adwords sytem obsolete, if not immediately, in the near future?

Anyone in the know, please comment.
