Advertiser can now block upto 500 sites from displaying their ads. http://www.jensense.com/archives/2005/09/adwords_adverti_3.html Wil thiis finish off most of the "made for adsense sites" or you think they will still survive?
They will survive. You have always been able to have your ads shown only in search results and not on websites at all. That is the option I use . But, there are plenty of newbie advertisers that will keep the made for adsense sites kickin'
You're implying that only a newbie advertiser would use Google's content network. I disagree, especially when you include site targeting. People are constantly site targeting my Besting Adwords blog with get rich quick on Adsense/Adwords schemes. These guys are making a killing. My blog is perfectly targeted to the people they want. Newbs who want to make a quick buck. Selling Green Bay Packers merchandise, then site-target a Packers fan blog. This is gold. Any advertiser that is missing out on this deal, is simply missing out.
The ad blocking thing doesn't bother me much. If you have a niche or theme based website with few competitors you are unlikely to have problems. If anyone has to be worried about this, it should be webmasters who own websites in extremely competitive industries, industries where the competition is fierce and they have a reason to block your ads.
That is not what I'm implying. What I'm saying is that a newbie advertiser probably isn't going to realize that there are so many made for adsense sites and wouldn't even think about using that feature that can block your ads from certain sites. Until they notice poor conversions and look into it deeper, that is , but by that time there are 100's (1,000's ?) more advertising newbie starting their adsense campaigns.
This will NOT just hurt the spam or crap made for adsense sites, but also anyone that has a low PR value or even a great site that doesn't get say 100,000 visitors a month etc.... Folks are going to want their ads on the best sites no matter what. This will hurt everyone except the amazons, ebays, or other giants in whatever industry the ads are targeting.
My opinion is that most advertisers would eliminate sites ,based on their looks rather than actual coversions. I think only the worst kind of sites will suffer. 500 is still a very SMALL NUMBER. Common terms like "web hosting" have thousands and thousands of sites built around them. So most sites will get away. Even all those meso junk sites will continue to exist.
