Good to be a webmaster during this recession

I have to say, I am so thankful that 3 years ago I got into this whole 'website' development business. Before that I was just a regular marketeer, completely dependent on whether supermarket folks had money to buy this product or that. While people are losing their jobs left and right, I feel like the internet is the only place that is still thriving because:
    1. It's practically free to surf etc.
    2. With higher unemployment people have more time to surf!

And eyeballs means more revenue. I feel like I am in control of my destiny here. The success of my website depends not on the stock market, because to run a website is not that expensive, but, rather, on the content I generate and the SEO and partnering that I do. I am not saying that I am immune to what's going on around me financially, just less affected by it.

Anybody feel the same as me?

I know this is suppose to be a recession...but Amazon just stated that this has been their best Christmas in sales EVER. The only thing that I noticed around me b/c of this "recession" is there weren't many people in the malls the day after xmas for the deals...though I guess that could mean everyone found amazon O_O lol

Not sure how it would effect me since I'm a student, but I'm glad I got into this biz when I did. This year has been my best year so this recession hasn't bothered me any.

I agree. Running your own business gives you far greater security than working for somebody else, providing you're prepared to put the work in.

This is a good read on the subject.

Thanks for sharing this link...it took the words right out of my mouth. For years nobody understood what am I doing at home all day....

But I control my time and how I spend it. If I want to go to the doctor, bank, various errands, I don't need special permission, 3 day weekends - up to me, taxes I pay are much lower...

Yes i'm inline with you coz i already not working for 1 years+.
What i earn for living is trading online.
I find out that its one of my great choice that i chose to opt out for the job that earn me $100k/yrs job and moved to forex trading.
Although the profit from forex is not much but i still can live my life to fullness and the trading time is flexible.

I completely agree with you. Working online gives you more flexibility. I mean, even when the economy was good, people were still surfing the internet. It's just now that there are more people who are unemployed they have more time to surf the internet which therefore helps those(us), who rely on the internet to make money or for entertainment.
