Actually they should describe the page and inform the user what it is about. Obviously you'll want to put your keywords for that page in there, but only as long as they acomplish the job the title tag is supposed to do. Note that (I'm saying this for the benfit of others) I am referring to the title element, not the title attribute here.

This is not always the best way to go about it, but it can help. Make sure the file name identifies what is on the page. If the page is about photography tips for example, then photography-tips.html would make an excellent file name, as would ten-photography-best-practices.html (assuming the page is about ten best practices that every photographer should employ).

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Just flat out wrong. Write your content, and emphasize it for the benefit of your VISITORS, not the search engines. I leave pages that look like they were written for a search engine rather than me. As do many other people. Face it, if your page is hemmoraging traffic rather than converting it into sales (or whatever the page's objective is) because you wrote it for a search engine and not the people who will be using the site (and for the purpose of this definition, the client is not the user), then no matter how well optimized the page is for the search engines, you have failed to do your job.

H1 headings are to be used as the top-level heading on the Web page (which is usually a minor variation of the page title). For example, if your page's title element has "Search Engine Optimization FAQ" as its contents, then a good H1 heading would have "Frequently Asked Questions About Search Engine Optimization" as its content. Note that the heading contains the keywords "Search Engine Optimization" while also telling the user in a friendly tone what the page is about.

This is best done when internally linking your pages outside of the menu (which should be done as plain HTML styled with CSS anyway - I use an unordered list for my menus because the menu is just an unordered list of links).

Never, EVER, update your site's content for the search engines. Update it for your visitors - by adding quality content that people will find useful. (A common SEO myth is that constantly updating your pages will get the bots to come back quicker. It won't. Adding new content and linking to it from other pages in your site and other sites will, however.)

A blog is no different than any other Web page or site. In that regard it is treated no differently by the search engines.

RSS feeds have nothing to do with SEO. Marketing on the other hand...

Don't do this right away - wait until you either have the traffic or know your potential user base VERY well and can market the forum directly to them knowing that your conversion rates will be high enough to populate a new forum with quality content that will not only attract new members but will also keep your existing members happy and posting even more.

This is not required. Yes, having keywords in your domain name can help, but it's not essential. For example, I just bought the domain name www.designharbor.com - if everything goes according to plan, I'll be conducting business (as a Web developer) under that name sometime early next year (office and all). If I wanted to, I could easily use the domain name for a site about computer aided drafting (CAD) an still have it rank well for the design aspect of CAD. Or even sell cat food (though there would be some major trust issues - what's a domain name with "design" in it doing selling cat food?).

There can be "some" duplication, just as long as it's not a significant part of your Web page (current weather and a list of top stories in the local news with excerpts rather than the full articles are two good examples of acceptable duplicate content).

And make sure it's a Web page, not an XML file. If you're going to use an XML site map, you may want to consider linking to it inside your sitemap page and nowhere else.

Flash is acceptable - when used properly (such as to add features, such as videos and Web-based chat). It is NOT to be used to build the entire Web site.

Not just search engines, but people as well. See what I said above about using an unordered list and CSS.

If you're referring to the META description yes. But you forgot something as well. The "call to action" to make people want to "click that link" and see what else your page has to offer.

Won't do much good. You want to get backlinks from other pages that are related to your pages, are doing better than you in the search engines, and have a higher PageRank than yours as well. A good example of a quality external back link is one that is related to your page's topic/niche, has a PageRank of 4 or higher, and ranks well in the search engines for the terms that your page uses as its seed and primary/secondary keywords (generally the top 1,000 results for a specific keyword).

Yes, and no. You want those incoming links to use the keywords you want in their anchor text, but it's to help ensure you rank well for those terms on the page the inbound-link (whether external - from another site - or internal - from another page within your site) is pointing to - not to show them what the site's keywords are.

Wrong again. Focus on QUALITY, not quantity. One excellent page will beat 500 crap pages any day of the week without breaking a sweat.

Those links will be very weak if they're even followed to begin with. They can be a great source of traffic however, especially if you establish yourself as a friendly expert and/or an authority on the topic you're linking to if you're a member of a forum that deals with that particular topic.

Ignore PageRank showing on google toolbar. Its for entertainment only and Google uses it for busting spammers.

The last PR update is a good example of it, The real PR changes almost daily. Concentrate on quality content and don't spam.
