Domain names that are really short 4-5 letter domain names are often worth more money. Two things you want to do when getting a domain name is check the back links to see if it has any good attachments to decent PR ranking sites, some do some don't It really all depends. As well as running your domain name threw Leapfish and trying to make sure your domain name is a good value to them ( Has to be a pretty high number on there since they are a little generous with there rating). For example coo2u.com I purchased was appraised on Leapfish for 27,000$ I sold it for $500 on Ebay So just keep in mind that is not totally accurate. I hope this helps some of you who are new to domains.! (If you feel this thread has helped you feel free to add a green rep.!
Personally I go by how brandable the domain is. Getting backlinks isn't hard, if it is then your product needs improvement.
Can you explain to me what you mean when you say "brandable" I would really like to know! Because I am trying to learn as well. -The PPD Champ. Stealer
Checking backlinks and pagerank is wasting your time since they will more likely disappear in the next crawling update. My personal experience registering expired domains in the past based on this premise
How catchy is the name? does it stick once you've heard it once? a domain like freedogfood.com doesn't but a domain such as donateddonuts.com would stick a little longer due to the play on the d's. I'm far from an experts on branding so I don't do a thorough analysis, I just use my head when deciding on a domain.
I wrote an article on this subject sometime before. http://www.nameslot.com/Choosing-the-right-Domain-Name-t-60.html Maybe it will help someone.
27000 dollars? wouldn't that have been great? receiving that kind of money, just for selling a domain name!
